the problem they already pulled-out their rotation players but still the Lyceum players were really shooting bricks and were just losing the ball even without defense ..... this team is really not fit to play at this level.

Dear school officials of Lyceum Polytechnic University-Cavite, why put these HS basketball players of yours under such duress ?

If I were the parent or brother or friends of these Lyceum kids, I would have pull them out of this team! Tsk. These are people folks!

    Meralco Bolts@TheMeralcoBolts

@joey55villar I'm so proud of my San Beda team but the Lyceum program should reconsider their priorities.

    3:23 PM - 2 Jul 12 via web

    Joey Villar@joey55villar

So if there's someone to blame, its Lyceum and the school and media who don't expose this sad, sad practice!

    3:22 PM - 2 Jul 12 via web

    Joey Villar@joey55villar

And oh. NCAA should not have allowed this! I'm cringing every time Lyceum throws a brick and turns the ball over. 155-14

Basketball should have a "mercy rule" in cases like this. Eye sore and bad for league.

Yeah, obviously it's a case of a real strong team up against a really, really weak squad.

And yeah, this happens every time so the question of "sportsmanship" can't really be avoided.

On one side (Lyceum), you'd want the kids to feel better despite a loss (if your son was playing for Lyceum, what would you tell him? That you are freaking bad in basketball, stop dreaming already? Or lie in his face and tell him, it wasn't too bad...)

On the other side (San Beda) you want that competitive fire going... But when do you say enough is enough? When do you start preaching values? (Call a timeout and tell your boys to stop playing hard because we don't want the other team get embarrassed?)

    Again, it's a tough call...

I can feel for the losing team. On a bright note, Lyceum players and coaching staff are now given the opportunity of a lifetime to reflect as a team and as a player. We had been put in a similar scenario many years ago and losing close to a century in fact it was even worse than Lyceum as my team due to injuries were a team of 2 basketballers and 7 rugby players who were last minute replacements. We faced the National champs. The players then bounced back the next games and ended up 11th in a tournament of 24. The next year, they continued progressing until finally after 2 years, they managed to beat the same team they faced 2 years back. It just a matter of timing. Maybe the team and player skill and maturity is not at the same levels yet due to coaching and other advantages the bedans have. But make no mistake, if they survive this humiliation as a team and as players, they will come out better for it in a few years time. Been there, survived it and came out better because of it. I hope Lyceum is made of the same stuff. San Beda may have just given them a bar to reach.
You are right DT in saying it is a tough call for you can only hold back these kids so much. But worry not for the kids as they are not as fragile as they seem to be.

Truth is we were surprised with the big winning margin as this year's version of the Red Cubs is supposed to be among the weakest in years as 12 out of the 15-man line-up are just mere Rookies.

But man those Lyceum boys could not even dribble and pass properly .... i do not know if they were really intimidated or what but they look like they were just playing basketball for the 1st time, they were given open looks but the ball would not even hit the rim then a mere in-bound pass the ball would end its way to a Red Cub .... in the 3rd quarter they just let them be but still they could not find their shot and even without defense loose the ball. There were times Beda would just pass the ball around in order to just milk the clock the time. If they really wanted a massacre, the team could have easily run-up the score over 200 but they did not. What else can you do .... the other team just did not belong on court. It was so bad that only 2 players scored with Aldwin Ligot scoring 12 points of Lyceum's total of 14.

But in any consolation the Malayan High School of Science which represents Mapua in the Junior Division of the NCAA started like this in NCAA Season 84 of 2008-09 but in 4 years the team grew and improved together and eventually entered the FINAL 4 and they even produced the current Energen U18 Co-Captain JJ Alejandro.

well, if there was someone who could have stopped the beating it was lyceum's "coach". he should have just spoke to the technical committee. halftime was 92-2 so obviously san beda already played a couple notches lower but still...whew.

Even Saret's 89 point game was against AUF.Those guys were lucky that none of their opponents tried to injured them when it's obvious that they were padding their stats at their expense.

The starting five of the Red Cubs actually played sparingly as the 2nd and 3rd stringers were given the playing time. Not fair to blame the strong team. Is it a sin to be strong and play good basketball for 40 minutes? At least they decided to do it as a team, rather than have one superstar like Arvin Tolentino pile up points to break the scoring record in HS which he could have done in this game. If this were Xavier or JRU, Tolentino could have scored 150 points in this game already. But no, he took the back seat and gave the glory to his lesser known teammates.
