At least they decided to do it as a team, rather than have one superstar like Arvin Tolentino pile up points to break the scoring record in HS which he could have done in this game. If this were Xavier or JRU, Tolentino could have scored 150 points in this game already. But no, he took the back seat and gave the glory to his lesser known teammates.
It just shows the superior program that San Beda have as they were playing 12 rookies out of its 15-man line-up against Lyceum-Cavite who's basically the same team from last year. Or its just Coach Joey Mente and the Lyceum officials has not done anything to improve this team which was already mediocre last year.

Why chastise a team for playing its best and show misplaced compassion for a team who does not prepare for a competition.

The Red Cubs respect the game so much that is why the go all out in each and every game and in any league that they participate in! That's dedication and love for the sport and the school they represent!

It goes to show that the school represented by the losing team is not taking the NCAA seriously! Some school official should be held accountable for this. But I pity those boys from LPU..it is them who gets the embarrasment while the unseen hands reponsible for sending them to the "Lions"(no pun intended) go unpunished!

Fed to Sharks -- Junior Pirates lose by 157 pts

Competing against a team which should be playing in another sport, the San Beda Red Cubs feasted on the Lyceum Junior Pirates and left a few things for the book.

Producing one long scoring burst after another in the entire game, the Red Cubs bludgeoned the Junior Pirates, 171-14, in an eyesore that marked yesterday’s hostilities in the NCAA basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

Guard Ranbill Tongco shot 27 points, outscoring the whole Junior Pirates squad, which was a pitiful sight to behold in all aspects of the game—dribbling, rebounding, shooting and defending.

The way they shot, dribbled, defended and rebounded, the Junior Pirates looked as if they were altar boys.

San Beda’s 157-point rout shattered the league’s largest winning margin of 145 points, also set by the Red Cubs against Lyceum, 163-28, on July 11, 2011.

The 14 points scored by the Junior Pirates, who are now on their second season, is a new record low.

“We develop our character and the winning attitude kasi kami ang defending champions. Hindi puwedeng mag-relax at i-develop ang mga bad habits. We treat Lyceum with respect,” said San Beda coach Britt Reroma.

The four-peat seeking Red Cubs, who led 43-0 after first 10 minutes of play, scored the first 67 points of the game before Aldwin Ligot ended the drought for the Junior Pirates by scoring a lay-up midway in the second period.

    SBC (171) – Tongco 27, Iñigo 19, Furaque 16, Mocon 16, Diputado 14, Gumtang 13, Tolentino 12, Macapayag 11, Abatayo 9, De Villeres 8, Abuda 7, Abude 7, Brojan 6, Caracut 6, Romero 0.

    LPU (14) – Ligot 12, Lagman 2, Tropicales 0, Moreno 0, Romanes 0, Cruzada 0, Soriano 0, Licerio 0, Verdad 0, Castañeda 0.

    Quarterscores: 43-0; 92-2; 136-10; 171-14

Underscored names are the only seniors in this Red Cubs team. This team will be very, very scary next year and Coach Britt still has a bunch of promising boys with basketball pedigree in reserve.

Among the 3 graduating Red Cubs, Inigo looks very promising with his steady quarter backing, 3-point shooting and good size for a point guard.

so that means out of the 3 veterans from last year's 3Peat Champion Team only Macapayag is the only Senior while Tongco and Tolentino would still be there next season.

San Beda's High School program is really at another level. While other NCAA teams are majority made-up of Graduating 4th Year Seniors aged 17-18 years old, the Red Cubs have a a very competitive team composed mostly of underclass kids who are just between 14 to 17 years old.

Baser with 2 3s in 6.5 seconds! Glad to see him adapting well to Coach Magsanoc system. Also I dunno if he's elligible for the ROY award but Dela Cruz is averaging almost 13ppg and 15 rpg.

San Beda looked rusty in the first half an was trailing most of the game.

SBC and UPHSD showed some nerves. Didn't like the way Perpetual was celebrating even before they had won the game though. Jett Vidal was a chucker.

Amer will play PG for the Philippines in the future.

BTW Lingganay, Barroca, and Amer all came from Zamboanga, didn't they? any chance they all came from the same school???

expect to see more improvements from amer this season. with the guidance of magsanoc and with hardwork, theres only one way amer's skills will go and thats up up up.

he should be eligible...there's no "jai reyes" rule in the NCAA....previous ROY winners sam ekwe, sudan daniel, carlo lastimosa, allan mangahas and josan nimes were not true freshmen...

under Ronnie, Amer has more freedom to do his own "diskarte". under Frankie, Amer was put on a leash as he has the tendency to be erratic.

I do not like to post excuses but I do feel the 1st Round schedule is awful, while some teams had to play 3 games with a week there are teams which has to wait almost 2 weeks in-between games.

The NCAA MANCOMM and AKTV are really stretching the schedule. The schedule is looking more like the way the PBA does it not that the way FIBA tournaments are layed-out.
