I'm not judging them because we're all spectators in this melee but something's got to give. Besides, suspending some players wouldn't hurt Beda AT ALL (plus, almost a lot of those included in the brawl graduated [e.g. Dave Marcelo]).
from what I heard there are some schools who are asking Coach Frankie Lim to be banned for life however most likely he'll be banned for a year. The rest of the coaching staff are said to have the same sanction as their head coach. There are some ManComm members who are for the one year ban of the whole San Beda Basketball Team but my source said most likely to happen is that more than half of the Red Lion line-up next season faces suspensions ranging from 1 game to 5 games. On how to penalize Dave Marcelo who already graduated is also being discussed being a major participant in the altercation with Coach Roger Gorayeb and the San Sebastian Mens and Womens Teams.

The ban and suspensions would surely affect San Beda's capability to defend its championship but this is a lesson that there must be no such violence in sports no matter the reason.

I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade but the best way we can gauge this kid's skills would be to see him in a real game and not in a scrimmage. Secondly, I don't find him that quick and explosive. If you're going to compare anyone with Kiefer and Bobby Ray, surely you'd expect much from that person. Right now, I just don't see the special "it" in him, especially in this video. This is unlike when you watch mixtapes of Kiefer, Paul Lee, or Abueva where you'd find yourself exclaiming "Holy shit, did you see that???"

Hopefully, I'm proven wrong when the NCAA starts. He is still young with a lot of basketball ahead of him.

Season ban pushed for Lim, Gorayeb

    Reynaldo Belen, InterAKTV · Thursday, February 9, 2012 · 11:41 pm

Screenshot from the Stags Facebook page

The NCAA management committee has recommended a season-long ban on San Beda basketball coach Frankie Lim and San Sebastian volleyball coach Roger Gorayeb for their respectives roles in a melee at the San Beda campus last year.

A member of the committee told InterAKTV that the recommendation has been passed to other members of the NCAA board and is up for review by chairman Ramon Cercado of Perpetual Help.

The committee member said that there were suggestions Lim and Gorayeb be given lifetime suspensions.

“We don’t have that kind of sanction in our rules and regulations,” said the member. “Recommendations have been made for a season-long ban on them, but certain issues were raised for further review.”

The same committee member said that the decision by the board is “expected to be reached after Valentines Day.”

Lim and Gorayeb engaged in a heated verbal exchange that led to a fracas during an NCAA volleyball game at the San Beda gym.

Gorayeb and a female San Sebastian volleyball player, Mae Crisostomo, were hurt during the incident.

The veteran volleyball coach was in the middle of the melee, while Crisostomo was hurt after trying to pacify male San Beda basketball players.

The incident started after San Beda’s Nigerian center Ole Adeogun heard chants by male San Sebastian volleyball players that he perceived as a racial slur. But the spikers denied the charge, saying they were misheard and that they were only shouting a standard volleyball warm-up chant that was not directed at Adeogun.

The Mancom came into the Policy Board meeting with the proposed sanction/penalty for Coach Frankie, Asst. Coaches and a 5 game suspension for Ola, 4 game suspension for Juice and two games a piece for every Red Lion.

Notwithstanding the gravity of said sanctions/penalties the same Mancom, appeared before Policy Board today without the necessary signatures of the very people who seemingly are spearheading the move to have the team penalized.

The NCAA has been known to produce players gifted with great athleticism such as Samboy Lim (Letran), Bong Alvarez (San Sebastian) and recently Ronald Pascual and Calvin Abueva of San Sebastian.

This is the problem. The media and the SSCR camp has already made it the SBC MBT vs the SSCR WVT. It wasn't! It was Coach Lim against Gorayeb, with Marcelo coming to the rescue. The rest of the RL that you see in the picture were just trying to pull them apart. It's just unfortunate that a woman was hit on accident.

This is something that should be settled in court. According to Ms. O, hindi naman daw sumisipot si Gorayeb.

Wait, FMC games are not real games? Those highlights are from FMC games, not scrimmages.

I've seen him play live and he's very talented. He can easily take control of the game when he needs to. His greatest knock though is he has the tendency to showboat. But then again, that's something that can easily be remedied.

Just so we're clear. He's a 6'2 PG/SG who can drive, dish, dunk, defend and shoot from all angles. Oh, and he's pretty quick and explosive. I'm not saying that he's better than Kiefer or Parks. All I'm saying is don't judge him based on what you see on the video.

If he plays this well in the NCAA and gets better as he gets older, he could very well become the 1st real SBC star in the pros since Boybits. I mean, let's face it a lot of ex-Lions get drafted in the pros but almost all of them become role players. Sometimes it seems like SBC is like Duke (USA). Top level college basketball program, championships, top level college players....who usually become role players in the pros.

Will Abueva still play? If he will, I'd love to see what will happen when this SBC rookie tries a spin move or dares to dunk on "The Beast from Baste"....Arrgh!!

As a PG, I'd say he has the makings of becoming a "Boybits Victorio 2.0". A hybrid, Fil-Am version of Boybits. Athletic PG who can score from the outside, pass, slash and dunk. I just don't know if he can develop the same basketball IQ and mental toughness of Boybits. That's a totally different story from athleticism and basketball skills. I remember how amazed I was at watching a 5'11" (5'10"?) Victoria playing for SBC in the NCAA and later on making a big name for himself in the PBA. He was actually my 3rd favorite PG back in those days (after Magsanoc and Olsen). If you watch the video again, he made a couple of drive-and-assist plays there that looked similar to what Boybits used to do before. Well athletes here in the Philippines are basically judged in how they play in their "mother leagues". So we'll have to reserve judgement until we see him in action in the NCAA. And if he does well, then perhaps he can continue to improve and become a big-time player for the National Team and then the pros.

i'm not keen on saying he is better then both kiefer and rayray but I would say based on what posters who has been watching him say... he is pretty much legit and is an auto mismatch for most guards in the collegiate level in our country at the moment.

the coming NCAA should be fun to watch with SBC having these 2, Arellano with their fil-fors and agovida, im not sure who is new in letran but they are doing well in the off season, baste always show up to compete, mapua still has a handful of good players. hopefully lyceum pulls some more rabbits out of their hats.

Red Lions, Chiefs dispute Fr. Martin crown
    ABS-CBNnews.com
    Posted at 02/20/2012 5:02 PM | Updated as of 02/20/2012 5:02 PM

MANILA, Philippines – The defending champions San Beda College Red Lions are back in the Fr. Martin Cup Finals.

The Red Lions turned the tables around on the Letran Knights in the last four minutes to post a 63-61 victory last Sunday in the semi-finals of the 8th Fr. Martin Collegiate Open Cup at the Trinity University of Asia Gymnasium in Quezon City.

San Beda leaned on an 11-3 wind-up to get past the Knights and arrange a Finals showdown with the Arellano University Chiefs next Sunday.

The Chiefs banked on the efforts of Vergel Zulueta and AJ Serjue at the end-game to put away the National University Bulldogs, 59-56, and earn their first ever Finals stint.

Julius Armon unloaded 16 points for San Beda, but it was the heroics of veterans Rome dela Rosa, Kyle Pascual and Anjo Caram that saved the day for the defending champions.

Down five points in the final 7:45 of the game, dela Rosa, Pascual and Caram took charge and put the Red Lions back on top with a 61-55 edge some four minutes later.

Kevin Alas showed the way for the Knights with 18 points, including nine in the first period. This allowed Letran to take the lead, 21-6, at the end of the opening quarter.

Serjue powered the Chiefs with 15 points and iced the game for Arellano with a split at the line in the final 3.8 seconds.

The Bulldogs were able to tie the count 54-all off Afred Aroga’s free throw, but the Chiefs took the lead for good after a trey from Zulueta with 54.2 seconds to go.

These Fil-Ams from AU, are they eligible to play this comng season? if they are then this sure is gonna be an interesting race to The Final Four... With SBC retaining most of their Redemption Team; ssc-r the Pinatubo Trio, AU these Fil-Ams not to mention their really competent coach and of course Letran and Mapua...

SSC-R might have a duo. but no trio because Abueva used up his eligibility already. Pascual has 1 more year but will he still play?

Of this im not sure but from what I've heard, he still has one playing year...

Anyway, any info on the proposed suspension of Frankie Lim and some of the Red Lions? Never mind Gorayeb, he ain't that important...

From what i've heard, both of the coaches will be suspended for two years, Armon and Ola for a year which is totally BULL....

From the pics, you can see both of the players A MILE away from the melee, so why suspend them?

San Beda, San Sebastian slapped with multiple sanctions

by inboundpass Wednesday, 22 February 2012

The NCAA Policy Board, after hearing the case and recommendations from the league’s Management Committee, have issued a series of sanctions last Wednesday, February 22, at an undisclosed location that can possibly cripple the San Beda College Red Lions and demoralize the San Sebastian Golden Stags.

According to a reliable source close to the situation, the San Beda men’s seniors basketball division head coach Frankie Lim and San Sebastian seniors volleyball division head coach Roger Gorayeb have both been initially slapped with two years suspension by the NCAA Policy Board.

The sanctions were based on the aftermath of a verbal confrontation including some physical contact between the two coaches during an official NCAA Volleyball Game last December 2011 at the St. Placid’s Gym in San Beda College.

The source also revealed that multiple players from the Red Lions will also be penalized, highlighted by Fil-Am guard Julius Armon and Nigerian center Ola Adeogun wherein both will have to wait an additional playing year before making their NCAA debuts. Additionally, veterans Melo Lim, Kyle Pascual, Jake Pascual, JP Mendoza, Rome Dela Rosa, Baser Amer and Anjo Caram will be tagged with one-game suspension apiece.

According to NCAA Policy Board spokesperson, Dr. Ramon Cercado, the NCAA has not made an official statement because these sanctions are not yet final and are subject to appeal by both San Beda College and San Sebastian College-Recoletos.

The Policy Board’s resolution on the matter have been scheduled on another date.
