    Now back to regular programming

Maybe we should have a player comparison thread for err, player comparisons so we won't litter the discussion on the current conference.

Air 21 takes on Powerade in the first game while Ginebra tackles TNT! Expect ~15K crowd tonight, a good day to watch this one!

A21, POW and GIN are all at 3-3 too so these are crucial crucial games for those squads.

What's happening to Japeth Aguilar? He lacks playing time this conference.

Toroman does not trust him. Reyes does not trust him. When can we start calling him a complete bust? Or when do we start waiting for "potential" to get realized?

Japeth Aguilar = Stromile Swift/Tyrus Thomas of the PBA. It sucks that Japeth Aguilar is not capable of taking his game into a higher level. He has the height, and athleticism, but he has a low basketball IQ. Air Jap is a former NCAA Division I player. He should be dominating these PBA Big men.

Two thoughts here: people generally a) overrates Aguilar's potential and b) underrates the capabilities of the PBA's undersized big men

Great game! i don't know but despite that atrocious shooting by Vroman i really feel he's a good fit. His style (excellent passing and energy) rubs off to his teammates. At some point the FT shooting will normalize (say around 50 to 60 per cent) and that would be enough to make Ginebra legit contenders.

Wow!!! It's like trading a basket case (Aguilar) for a head case (Rabeh). A perennial underachiever for a recalcitrant brat. Pick your poison ... do you want to get disappointed day in day out, or do you want to get frustrated game in game out.

i'd take it and run away with it 10 times out of 10. Why? Because untapped talent is untapped talent-- at some point potential will show correct? Toroman, Reyes... What's the common denominator between those two? They never trusted Japeth. Yes, he is mentally weak, yes he could probably be s/low in basketball IQ, which only means you need a motivational coach for him. Then again, he was under Yeng.. though really, it was a very short, short stint..

And of course, as we say, you can't teach height and Japeth is still a legit 6'9"

(Plus of course, Petron should just trade Rabeh for peanuts; addition by subtraction)

knowing that Norman Black will eventually be the coach of TnT, I wouldnt be surprised if they went for this trade in the forseeable future.

As for Japeth, he needs to go to a team that would stick to him through all his shortcomings. basically Barako and Air21.

Haha true dat. But I'd take Rabeh. When he's in shape (and motivated), he can and will score in bunches. He was very very good when he was with air21 (pretty dominant actually), and there were quite a few stretches in PBB where he was a heavy contributor before his injury. The surplus of bigs in Petron also cut down his minutes so he didn't get to show his stuff. From go-to-guy to role player off the bench. You can see from his body language that he didn't like that.

As for Japeth, I concur with Mr. Yabuki. The only way Japeth can truely realize his potential is if he ACTUALLY plays enough real games. Let him play through his mistakes, and when he learns from his mistakes little by little, the confidence will come. There is only so much X's and O's on a white board can do. Ibabad yan sa laro para mahasa at di mapulpol.

Again, mods i request that we make a separate thread for Player Comparisons-- since we're going out of topic every time a person asks about this kinds of player comparison topics... (Am guilty of that as well mods, so next time i see a player comparison topic, i am going to make that into a thread)

Old and expected news but here's INTERAKTV's article:

The Petron Blaze Boosters are tapping Will McDonald as its new reinforcement to replace Nick Fazekas in hope of saving their slumping stint in the ongoing PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

A highly-placed source from the team told InterAKTV that McDonald is scheduled to arrive in the country on Sunday, which will give him enough time to get familiar with the team’s system. The Boosters are playing on Wednesday against the unpredictable Barako Bull Energy.

“He will be here on Sunday coming from Spain,” said the source.

Fazekas put up impressive numbers, but the Boosters are coming off back-to-back setbacks that dropped them into a tie with the Meralco Bolts at sixth to seventh places.

Team consultant Rajko Toroman confirmed that Fazekas still attended Saturday’s practice, although he admitted that McDonald might take their original import’s spot on Wednesday.

In his Twitter account, Fazekas confirmed that he was “cut by Petron.”

“Well #petroniverse…I wanna thank y’all for all the love but my time is up!! Good luck to the team the rest of the way,” posted Fazekas.”I got cut. 31 and 20 weren’t good enough for these guys.”

McDonald played until the latter stretch of February with his Chinese team Fujian where he averaged 27.6 points and 9.9 rebounds, went to Spain at the end of his CBA campaign in a bid to ink a deal with an ACB squad, but failed to do so. Instead, he was able to agree on a pact with a Boosters squad badly needing a win to save its Commissioner’s Cup stint.
With Petron at 3-4, does McDonald have what it takes to bring Petron out of the cellar and improve on a rather mediocre showing? (Lutz out for the season too...)

Dangit!!! Lutz is gone for the season. It couldn't get any worse for Petron. It wasn't Fazekas' fault ... 31ppg and 20rpg is pretty awesome by any standards. It was the sloppy inconsistent locals that did them in. Injuries/out of shape players didn't help either. This new import is probably a banger/inside type player - complete departure from Fazekas. PBB's local bigs have been rather disappointing. Wawa namn si Nick.
