I don't know about location of the draw, it indeed looks strange. Why not London, the place where it should be made? However probably it doesn't matter much, but seedings are totally random here. I wonder where did you take it from, Kings? Any official source or just you put it randomly by yourself?

FIBA ESCOLHE RIO PARA SEDE DO SORTEIO OLÍMPICO

Rio de Janeiro – Além de ser a sede dos Jogos Olímpicos de 2016, o Rio de Janeiro foi escolhido neste mês para ter a honraria de receber os dirigentes da Central Board da Federação Internacional de Basketball (Fiba) para uma das principais reuniões da entidade no ano de 2012. A entidade maior do basquete mundial também irá fazer os sorteios e a ordem dos jogos do basquete para as Olimpíadas de Londres, que serão realizadas no período de 27 de julho a 12 de agosto deste ano. O evento será organizado pelo Comitê Olímpico Brasileiro (COB), com a logística da Confederação Brasileira de Basketball (CBB). Os sorteios e tabela do masculino e feminino, que o Brasil estará presente nos dois, fato que não ocorria desde 1994, em Atlanta (EUA).

A reunião da Central Board da FIBA, no Rio, será nos dias 28 e 29 de abril e terá o comando do ex-árbitro e atual diretor de competições da Fiba, Lubomir Kotleba, que tem uma relação muito boa com o basquete brasileiro. Ele foi também um dos árbitros que apitou a histórica vitória do Brasil sobre os Estados Unidos na final do Pan-americano de 1987, em Indianápolis (EUA), por 120 a 115, com a Seleção Brasileira ficando com a medalha de ouro.

Carlos Nunes, presidente da Confederação Brasileira de Basketball, ficou muito feliz de ver a reunião da Central Board da Fiba, no Rio de Janeiro, mas será um convidado de honra do encontro. “É um evento da Fiba e do Comitê Olímpico Brasileiro. Nós, da CBB, vamos ajudar apenas na parte logística do acontecimento e torcer para que tenhamos sorte nos sorteios,” disse o presidente da CBB.

Paulinho Villas Boas de Almeida, diretor de Relações Institucionais da CBB, adiantou que o Rio de Janeiro irá receber em torno de 50 membros do Bureau Central da Fiba. O local da reunião e do sorteio ainda não foi definido, podendo acontecer no auditório do Comitê Olímpico Brasileiro ou no hotel onde os dirigentes da Fiba irão se hospedar.

Exactly. Brazil making a pair with Tunisia? Terrible...It should be Tunisia + China and Brazil + France, not?

Tunisia+China yes, not sure about Brazil+France. Before Beijing 2008 draw (the picture below) it was both top European teams in one pair

So now it'd be Spain+France, while back then we had 3 Euro teams, so 3rd was paired with hosts (Lithuania+China), now we have 3 American teams, so I assume it might be Great Britain+Brazil

The draw to determine the two preliminary round groups of six teams each is scheduled to be held April 28, 2012, at the FIBA Central Board meeting n the Ivory Coast.

I see your point, now it makes little bit more sense, but still I find it quite random, cause the seedings simply just aren't set like that nor in WC, nor in OG. Continental principle is important during the draw - to not have majority teams from one continent in one group, while rankings doesn't has any influence. I really doubt that FIBA would change that, but we'll see
