    Montenegro’s Generation Next

Montenegro have announced that rising star Nikola Ivanovic will play at the U18 European Championship in Lithuania and Latvia this summer and not at the U20 event in Slovenia.

The 1.87m guard was in last year's team at the U20 European Championship and averaged 9.4 points, two assists and 2.3 rebounds in 28.5 minute per game.

    Montenegro finished seventh in 2011.

Coach Mihailo Pavicevic will also not call Nemanja Djurisic, who is hurt and unable to play.

The power forward poured in 14.3 points and corralled seven rebounds a game for Montenegro at the U18 European Championship in 2010.

Marko Todorovic of Joventut Badalona has been named in the 17-man preliminary squad for the U20 tournament.

The 2.10m center averaged 8.6 points, 7.9 boards, 1.1 blocks and 1.4 steals at least year's U20 European Championship in Spain.

Forward Radosav Spasojevic and guard Andrej Pajovic are the other two players who featured on last year's U20 team and will be returning this summer.

In Slovenia, Montenegro will face Germany, Serbia and France in Group A.

Montenegro preliminary squad: Andrej Pajovic, Bojan Ratkovic, Mihailo Kasalica, Ivan Fatic, Nemanja Grabovica, Milos Latkovic, Marko Mugosa, Radosav Spasojevic, Danilo Dragovic, Vukota Pavic, Danilo Nikolic, Marko Todorovic, Luka Radovic, Nihad Musovic, Filip Sekulic, Pavle Raickovic and Marko Kovac.

Funny thing... Bojan Radulović is currently with Slovenian U20 on preparations eventhough he mostlikely won't make the squad.

    Slovenian preliminary:
Jan Špan (Maribor, 92', 189cm, PG)
Aljaž Korošec (Helios, 92', 188 cm, PG)
Luka Rupnik (Slovan, 93', 185 cm, PG)
Matic Urbas (Parklji, 93', 188 cm, SG)
Miha Vašl (polzela, 92', 192 cm, SG)
Klemen Prepelič (Helios, 92', 189cm, SG)
Matej Rojc (Krka, 93', 198 cm, SG)
Miha Lapornik (Laško, 93', 192 cm, SG)
Jaka Brodnik (Laško, 92, 203 cm, SF)
Jan Demšar (Škofja Loka, 92', 190 cm, SF)
Marko Filipovič (Parklji, 93', 203 cm, SF)
Alen Hodžić (Parklji, 92', 192 cm, SF)
Marko Pajič (Slovan, 92', 204 cm, PF)
Jure Besedič (Helios, 92', 205, PF)
Gezim Morina (Olimpija, 92', 204 cm, PF)
    Žiga Dimec (Laško, 93', 210 cm, C)
    Alen Omić (Laško, 92', 215 cm, C)
    Bojan Radulović (Olimpija, 92', 210 cm, C)
    Žiga Fifolt (Krka, 93', 210 cm, C)
    Urban Gorjanc (Helios, 92', 213 cm, C)

Playing at home this team should basicaly go for medals. They've got Sagadin as HC, one of potentialy most dominant centers on the tournament in Omić and seemingly quite some depth with Prepelič, Besedič, Brodnik, Rojc, Dimec, Lapornik getting decent minutes in Adriatic league and Pajič, Rupnik, Špan, Korošec pretty efficient for their age in 1st Slo league. Finaly a talented generation, it's been a while...

Bosnian Alen Omic, Serbian Bojan Radulovic & Kosovar Albanian Gezim Morina in competition for the naturalized spot on the roster. However, Basketball Federation of Slovenia is desperately seeking to reach an agreement FIBA Europe about Morina.

A gold medal contender for sure.

Serbia U20 beat Slovenia U20 (97:75) in friendly game.

Pretty strange game with an out of order scoreboard (shot clock, time & fouls not visible for players, instead benches warn player in loud voices). Sagadin used both naturalized centers Omić & Radulović during the game, which won't be the case at the European Championship.

Scorers for Serbia: Top secret information
    Scorers for Slovenia: Špan 11, Rupnik 9, Brodnik 1, Prepelič 14, Besedič 4, Hodžić, Omić 6, Rojc 6, Pajić 12, Lapornik 8, Radulović 2, Gorjanc 2.

Tomorrow, another friendly game, this time without attendance.

By the way, Klemen Prelepič who was expected at the Adidas Eurocamp in Treviso, will remain with Slovenia U20 squad and won't attend at that famous camp. Who cares of NBA anyway?

Spain Combine Two Crops Of Champions

Spain's players will not be short of self belief when they run onto the court at the U20 European Championship this summer in Slovenia.

That was assured when coach Luis Guil included one gold medal winner after another in his preliminary squad of 19 players for the event, which tips off on 12 July.

The group has a mixture of gold medal winners from last year's team at the U20 European Championship in Bilbao like Jose Pozas, Alejandro Barrera and Joan Tomas, and players that won the 2011 U18 European Championship title like Guillem Vives, Jorge Sanz, Jaime Fernández, Daniel Díez, Alejandro Suárez, Alejandro Abrines and Julen Olaizola.

Last year's U18 European Championship appears to have served as a springboard for greatness for MVP Abrines.

The 1.97m forward played in six of Unicaja Malaga's Turkish Airlines Euroleague games and also featured in 18 Spanish Liga Endesa games.

He made headlines when erupting for a game-high 31 points in a game against Asefa Estudiantes in March, the highest amount by a Spanish player of any age in last season's Liga Endesa up to that point.

The 31 points also surpassed the mark set by Ricky Rubio for most points in a single league game by a player under the age of 19.

Rubio, who was a rookie with the Minnesota Timberwolves this season, had once scored 25 for Joventut Badalona.

Spain will start training for the U20 European Championship in Murcia on 17 June and will play an international warm-up tournament against Ukraine, Slovenia and Lithuania.

Spain preliminary squad: Jose Pozas, Jorge Sanz, Guillem Vives, Cristian Díaz, Joan Creus, Jaime Fernández, Alejandro Barrera, Albert Ventura, Alejandro Abrines, Miguel Servera, Daniel Díez, Joan Tomas, Mamadou Diop, Alejandro Suárez, Pier Oriola, Fran Guerra, Víctor Arteaga, Malick Fall and Julen Olaizola.

Montenegro U20 lost all 6 games in China. 55-83 China NT, 62-69 Serbia (University team?), 71-81 Croatia (not sure what team), 71-79 China NT, 61-84 Serbia, 65-91 Croatia. But they look young and have a lot of talent.
