Missing their three main players (Louden, Gidden, Edwards) from previous years...might be tough for them to beat out Mexico.

you mean Puerto Rico, not mexico, or what do u mean with..beat out mexico?
what do u think about the 3 new players.
the other 8 players had not have any big influences in the game of Jamaica in the last years.
Jackson is also not in the roster

Interesting…among the new players St John’s Shenneika Smith is the most talented. As a junior, she led her college in scoring during a good 2011-12 season, that saw the Red Storm upset national power UConn. At 6-1 she’s a strong guard/wing.
F/C 6-2 Angelee LaTouche (2011 George Mason) and Tajay Ashmeade (2011 Seton Hall) are good rebounders and veterans of Jamaica NT.
Also Zandria Dell, Sasha Dixon and Christina Mitchell earned international experience with Jamaican NT (2010 and 2011).
Tarita Gordon, a 5-5 guard, just completed her senior year at East Tennessee State, where she was 3rd in scoring and 1st in assists. She was member of 2010 Jamaica NT but had little play.
6-1 Fw Althea Byfield (born 1982) had her best college year at Texas A&M in the 2004-5 season when she was a junior. She’s got experience with Jamaica NT both in basketball and in netball.
Rhona McKenzie, a 6-0 Fw born 1976, has got a lot of experience having played for years in Europe, last season in Switzerland.
Jamaica imo had better teams in the past, with the likes of Vanessa Gidden, Simone Edwards, Nicole Louden, but some players' development deserves to be followed…waiting for 2012-13 U. of Pittsburgh Jamaican recruit Marvadene Anderson, who at 6-11 is deemed to be the tallest teenage girl player in the world !

    Cuba 88 Trinidad/Tobago 36
    Mexico 77 El Salvador 44
    Dominican Republic 72 USVI 69
    Puerto Rico 82 Jamaica 53

DR-USVI was the game of the day. USVI was up 63-59 with 2 minutes left, but the Dominicans hit three straight threes followed by 4 of 4 from the line, and the USVI missed a wide open three for the tie at the end.

Clearly favorite should be home team Puerto Rico and Cuba more for its tradition than for recent results. Mexico could also be an outsider, but they lack a player like veteran Erika Gomez.
One of the cinderella-teams USVI had a good game yesterday, players to follow are imo Nicole Day (2012 Portland), Yanique Javois, Victoria Hamilton, Lynia Liburd, Akeema Richards (2014 Delaware) and youngster 6-2 C/F Edidiong Utibe a 2013 class HS player who is regarded as a future star (yesterday she dnp).

what do u think about tonights game - TRINIDA&T vs US Virgin?

Last year, after a huge defeat in th first round against Cuba (32:80) at the CBC Champs, Trinidad have won all games (also vs US Virgin 76:68) and took the second place of the tournament.

what do u think for tonight?

USVI, but I know very little on T&T players !

P.S. Well, apart Rhea Codio and Shakira Clarke.

    Cuba 101 Dominican Republic 67
Puerto Rico 83 El Salvador 29

Impressive how Cuba continues to dominate at this level despite the cutbacks in their program over the last decade. Maybe PR can take them down this time?

FWIW the tournament is being shown on fibatv.com and other streams are available as well.

In an earlier game #1 contender Cuba beat Virgin Islands 73-58 (39-25).

With an easy win over Mexico 88-43 Puerto Rico will meet Dominican Republic in the semis, while Cuba faces Mexico.
Most likely the two strongest contenders Cuba and home team Puerto Rico will meet in the final.

Continuing its winning streak (47) at Centrobasket, Cuba won the final over Puerto Rico 78-63.
Dominican Rep surprisingly took the third place narrowly defeating 79-78 Mexico that didn't have the services of experienced Brisa Silva in the whole tournament.
These top 4 nations are qualified to the 2013 Fiba Americas.
