    Default Chinese CBA 2012-13 season

    Offseason coaching changes:
Liaoning: Li Ge --> Wu Qinglong
Xinjiang: Jiang Xingquan --> Cui Wanjun
Jiangsu: Hu Weidong --> Chiu Da-chung (Taiwan)
Zhejiang Lions: Jim Cleamons (USA) --> Wang Fei
Zhejiang Gold Bulls: Ding Wei --> Yang Xuezeng

Tianjin and Foshan will most likely also change their coaches. Shanxi also has a coaching void after the departure of Yang Xuezeng despite an excellent record, but that's ok since the owner "Boss" Wang Xingjiang can coach the team like he always does.

"Canadian Jeremy Lin" Nathan Yu (one of the best players in Canadian CIS) and his brother Jordan Yu will play in Hong Kong this season. After 2 years, they'll be eligible to jump to CBA as local players in 2014, even though they are Canadian citizens by birth with a Canadian mother. So far the CBA hasn't been very open to foreign-born players of Chinese descent, so they could be trailblazers in this regard if they do make it one day.

    http://www.canadawest.org/news/2012/...530123625.aspx
Playing in the CBA is the ultimate goal for the Yu siblings and they do have their Hong Kong citizenship working for them because the league restricts the number of "imports" that can play on each team. "We would be considered non-imports in two years," Jordan said. "You have to have your Hong Kong citizenship for seven years and we've had it for five and a little right now. We're hoping to use Hong Kong as a stepping stone to get there."... "If I work hard, the sky's the limit," Nathan said. "I want to try to make the CBA. It's one of the best leagues in the world. It's second to the NBA, in my opinion, so it would be a dream to play there, especially in my dad's home country."

Yang Chin-min from Taiwan signs with Shanxi as the exodus from SBL continues. Expect a few other Taiwanese players to make their CBA debut this season, including "Jet" Chang Tsun-hsien who is trying out for NBA teams these days.

Xinjiang has been trying out 2 Taiwanese guards, Wu Yong-jen and Ko Min-hao. Nothing official yet.

Josh Fisher (189, 1980) moves from ACB to Fujian? Fujian has already resigned big man Will McDonald I believe.

Zhejiang Gold Bulls also signed someone who played in ACB last year, Quincy Douby. Of course he's no stranger to China, the most unstoppable offensive player in 2010-2011 season playing for Xinjiang before breaking his wrist in the offseason.

Von Wafer (last played for the Magic?) completed his workout with Xinjiang. Rumors claim that Joey Dorsey (last played in Greece) may be up next. Once you don a Houston Rockets jersey in the Yao Ming era you are guaranteed a gig in the CBA. (Steve Francis, Stromile Swift, Maurice Taylor, Mike Harris, Mike James, Kirk Snyder, Aaron Brooks, Gerald Green, Rafer Alston, Bonzi Wells, John Lucas III,.... Can Juwan Howard still ball? )

Word on the street is the "Asian import" rule, which some teams proposed to get rid of, will remain in place for the 2012-13 season. According to his agent, Zaid Abbas from Jordan will continue to benefit from the rule; he has led 3 different bottom-dwelling teams to the playoffs, in fact, so far he 1) is the only "Asian import" to taste playoffs in CBA history; 2) has never failed to make the playoffs.

Qingdao has made a few quiet free agent acquisitions, getting big men Shang Ping from Shanxi and Yang Genglin from Fujian to deepen their bench. They also retained Korean coach Kang Jungsoo, who has been with the team for 3 years "to prove himself" after a "fall from grace" in his native country, culminating in a 9th place finish last year with a non-impressive lineup. Kang originally planned on going back to Korea, since after proving himself in CBA he now has quite a few KBL offers, but at the end the management persuaded him to stay.

This is Kang, once the Korean NT head coach in 2006 Asian Games in Doha. The team has 2 interpreters, one from Korean to Chinese and one from Chinese to (Chinese) English, and it's almost like watching Wong Kar-wai's movies during timeouts since everybody is saying a different language at the same time, and yet somehow against God's plan (Tower of Babel) it works, so good for them.

In a interview with sports-leb yesterday Rony Fahed mentioned about receiving an offer from a Chinese team (he didn't say Tianjin but we know that it's them) and he mentioned that he has decided that he will be staying in Lebanon this time around and not head back to China.

So I guess with this Rony has clarified his position regarding this issue and Tianjin should start looking for other options regarding their Asian import this season.

So apparently rumors are suggesting that Panathinaikos are interested in Han Dejun whcih is being discussed here in the Euroleague signings & rumours thread. Don't know how serious the rumours are as I don't know if he has what it takes to play with a Top Euroleague team... For sure his big size and young age are a great asset for him though.

At first it was Yi Jianlian's name in discussion but then it moved to Han Dejun

Former Jordan NT head coach Tab Baldwin is with Fujian. He expressed his hopes to coach the China NT.

Dongguan signed Marcus Haislip and might bring back Josh Akognon, but Akognon is entertaining NBA training camp offers since he shot lights out in the summer league.

Dongguan is also trying out this US-based ethnic Chinese player James Wang Ting-chieh, who was born in Taiwan, moved to Australia when he was 2, moved back to Taiwan when he was 15, then enrolled in a prep school in Florida, got a Division I offer from Nicholls State (who?), decided he wanted to go to an Ivy League school (Asian parents), spent another prep year in Connecticut, did not get into Ivy League, went to Division III school Williams College instead (probably a Leehom Wang fan), was the captain during their Final Four run, graduated this year. At just 6'0'' and primarily a shooter, he may be a little short, but he probably could make it, providing he has ROC citizenship. CBA doesn't boast a lot of "local players" grown up overseas and if he does make it it will add to the diversity of the league. James Wang was last seen training with Jeremy Lin in Taiwan the past week, and Jeremy Lin was in Dongguan the week before (and played for the team last year for a few games). You see the connection.

Tianjin officially signed Sam Daghlas (I was wrong), while his Jordanian teammate Zaid Abbas did sign with Shandong as expected. Jiangsu, also eligible for an Asian player, is considering some Iranian stars but I doubt they want to play in CBA as always. I heard Jiangsu is also interested in Wesam Al-Sous. Meanwhile Rasheim Wright is in China and could land a contract somewhere as a regular import.

Liaoning is trying out DJ Strawberry.

Is it true that Taulava was offered by Foshan too? I just wonder if this is true. Because agents can always claim their player is being courted by another team to increase his player's worth/offer.

I really wonder if this is true because Taulava is 40+ years old, slower that he is now and not as good as he was.
Anyway, negotiations seems a gonner now because taulava is reportedly picking an ABL team. But i really wanted to know if Foshan really negotiated for him.

I think no one can bring Fadi out of Lebanon, I remember NBA teams before also sent feelers to him, and as per rumors he all turned it down.

There are total 4 slots for Asian Imports(because Bayi Rocket would not sign any import)

so now the Rockets are allowed to bring an Asian Import? I thought only the bottom 4 teams were only eligible for the Asian Imports.. Regardless, what are the requirements to play as Asian Import Player?? From what I have heard is that 1) Need to be born in Asian Country 2) Have passport from Asian Country.. Is there anything else?
