Win #3 for China, nothing surprising here, though the halftime lead was only 2pts, but I was never worried once. All 12 of our players scored. After the game, Chen Nan and Miao Lijie are still the tourney's top scorer and top assister respectively.

US anemic for much of the first and third quarters but eventually roll to an 89-58 win, similar to the Croatia game. McCoughtry and Whalen continue to bring tons of offense off the bench.

Turkey's former naturalized player Kristen Newlin is still in London for the Olympics--her brother is a rower on the US men's eights team which missed out on a medal by 0.3 seconds this morning.

Cambage with the dunk against Russia!

Brazil has always beaten Canada pretty easily, but in the context of this tournament Canada may be the favorite.

Not bad by women's standards. But most women's dunks attempts are horrible, unless you can make 90% of dunks in practice please refrain from dunking in real games, it doesn't help the sport, only hurts it.

China got destroyed by Turkey. Turkey has very good guards, Alben, Palazoglu, Tuncleur, all very smart players who can shoot, I'm impressed!

I still don't understand why our coach must play our starters until the last minute, when they obviously don't even have the energy to pass. Ma Zengyu and Miao Lijie both averaging 30+min/game despite 3 out of 4 games being blowouts, these are 30 year olds, not women of steel!

Also, finally got an NBC stream, the guy pronounced most Chinese names sort of right, A+ for professionalism. Very refreshing, since I previously had to endure BBC and Al-jazeera (which I can't understand) butcher Chinese names. Lisa Leslie kept dissing China's effort, but they played hard, they just got winded because our coach is too conservative.

Probably, Britt Griner only is capable of dunking as well as Camabage (they have more or less the same height), but she's not in the Olympics ...

Back to today's games, Canada earned a place in the quarters in a surprising win over Brazil. South Americans are recording a really bad campaign in these Games.

Turkey crushed China, what is also unexpected, though the Europeans have already shown some good things before and during the Games.

First of all, we have some very good players. Our guards Işıl Alben,Esmeral Tunçluer ,Tuğba Palazoğlu and center Nevriye Yılmaz are elite Euroleague players.
In the other hand, Chinese women played like a sh.t. It probably was the worst match of them. China had very bad day. We had very good day unlike China

Got bored so watched the last minute of the 4th quarter (and eventually the OT) of the GB-France game. The refs wanted to help the poor host so bad, but what an amazing clutch shooter this #9 Dumerc is! Two incredible buzzer-beating 3pointers, one at end of regulation and one at end of OT.

So Group A is going to finish in this order: USA-TUR-CHN-CZE, barring very unrealistic upsets (Angola over Czech Republic or USA losing).

But Group B is still a mess even though GB and Brasil are both out.

    1) If AUS>CAN, FRA>RUS; then the order is: FRA-AUS-RUS-CAN

    2) If CAN>AUS, FRA>RUS; then
    2a) If CAN beats AUS by 1 or 2, it's FRA-AUS-RUS-CAN
2b-I) If CAN beats AUS by 3 and scoring less than or equal to 57, then it's FRA-AUS-RUS-CAN
2b-II) If CAN beats AUS by 3 and scoring more than 57, then it's FRA-RUS-AUS-CAN
    2c) If CAN beats AUS by 4, it's FRA-RUS-AUS-CAN
    2d) If CAN beats AUS by 5, it's FRA-RUS-CAN-AUS
2e) If CAN beats AUS by 6 and scoring less than or equal to 70, then it's FRA-CAN-RUS-AUS
2e-II) If CAN beats AUS by 6 and scoring more than 70, then it's FRA-RUS-CAN-AUS
2f) If CAN beats AUS by 7 or more, it's FRA-CAN-RUS-AUS

    3) If CAN>AUS, RUS>FRA; then the order is: RUS-FRA-CAN-AUS

    4) If AUS>CAN, RUS>FRA; then
    4a) If RUS beats FRA by 1, 2 or 3 points, it's FRA-AUS-RUS-CAN
4b-I) If RUS beats FRA by 4 and scoring less than or equal to 69, it's AUS-FRA-RUS-CAN
4b-II) If RUS beats FRA by 4 and scoring more than 69, it's FRA-AUS-RUS-CAN
4c) If RUS beats FRA by 5 or more, it's RUS-AUS-FRA-CAN

Did I make any mistakes in my calculations? Yeah nobody cares.

OTOH, where did they come up with their pronunciation of Cambage? "Cam-BEIGE"?

Has there ever been a tournament where teams shot last-second threes with such efficiency? Feel bad for both GB teams, close so many times and they just can't hold on. Bad possessions by GB at the end of overtime.

For the third time in four games the US opponent was red-hot in the first quarter and then cooled down. US could have scored 100 if they hadn't missed a bunch of layups in the second half but I still don't think they've played their best. Moore and Jones started today.

Willing to avoid some headache... I take them for granted !
Well, yes the standings of Group B is more complex, and I doubt that France can continue winning. In yesterday's game, Les Bleues were just saved by these two incredible 3-pointers by Celine Dumerc you have mentioned. And French team often couldn't stop GBR's attack led by Jo Leedham who was really amazing. Host team should imo deserve at least a win !
USA team's full potential is still to be shown with continuity, btw Sylvia Fowles is always out (she's listed day-to-day).

China was beating the US 28-25 late in the first quarter, now the US is up 76-40 in the middle of the third.

Water polo game between China and Australia is more exciting, headed to a penalty shootout. Australia finished first in their pool and China finished last but for whatever reason all the teams advance to the quarterfinals.

USA women can win the gold medal with no coach. The talent is ridiculous. Too fast, too athletic and too strong (was it Taurasi who destroyed the male ref?) But there is no way that Tina Charles 2-handed block-dunk on Chen Nan's face is not a foul.

China played 1 very good quarter and that's enough for me. One more loss to finish at 3-3 and that will still be an overall successful campaign for them, considering the makeup of our team. I love Ma Zengyu, probably the world's most unathletic female guard ever (got cut by Tom Maher in 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008 for having no lift) but making the most out of her talent, incredible 9/16 from the 3 in this tourney showed her hard work and persistence all these years. Too bad she's already 30 despite a newbie to the Olympics.

    Quarterfinals set: USA-CAN; TUR-RUS; CHN-AUS; CZE-FRA.

CZE-FRA looks imo quite intriguing, with both teams relatively close in spite of their standings.
FRA is of course favorite but CZE has been improving.

Doesn't look like it's going to happen for the GB women. Maher blowing up during every timeout.

Strong resistance of Turkey vs Russia, but semis will be a classic, USA-Australia and Russia-x (France favorite ?).

Almost a great day for the US with upset threats in the other three quarterfinals, but the favorites won in the end. US again didn't start playing that well until the middle of the second quarter but fortunately the opponent was Canada.

Australia up 22-20 after the first quarter. Cambage dominating inside and Kristi Harrower doing a very good job. US needs to force turnovers .

47-43 at halftime. Cambage in Zheng Haixia mode and the US doesn't seem to know what to do...time for Geno to earn his money.

US up 65-59 after three, did a much much better job of denying the pass to Cambage and held her scoreless for the quarter.
