    I also thought is was a Turkish invention, especially because I was always told that the word "yoghurt" was of Turkish origin.

    Actually the very first to come up with yoghurt-like foods were indeed turkic people. Don't confuse them with turkish people though. As you know Turkic people comprise of a wide range of tribes and Turks are one of them. Therefore everything Turkish is Turkic but not everything Turkic is Turkish. The same goes for German and Germanic. But if I am not wrong in Turkish (language) there is no distinction between Turkish and Turkic, am I right?.

    In any case, I think Bulgarians want to take credit for the modern form of yoghurt. My dad is a passionate supporter of the Bulgarity* (sic) of yoghurt . I personally don't care. I just want to eat it.

    *Dont worry if you confuse it with vulgarity, it means pretty much the same...

    Luckily there is a distinction in german (language). Germans are called deutsch and germanic tribes include skandinavians, dutch, english and older tribes like the franks, angles, saxons, lombards, goths, vandals, vikings
