    Default Rudy Fernández

I just though it was time to have a thread about him.

He is by now one of the most promising European players and is already abandoning that position imo
For me his destiny is the NBA, not only because of his unusal athleticism for a European player, but also because he is skilled. What do you guys think about him?

He's becoming more and more the leader of Joventut, which is indeed remarkable for a player of his age. In this weekend's game he "just" had 36 pts (7-10 FG, 7-9 3pt , 1-1 FT).

    Throw your opinions about him.

There're highlights of him on Eurosport.com. Good slasher that can dunk a premium need currently in the nba.
Alrighty then! Take care now, bye bye then.

put a side his phisical skills (which are defently impressive and eventhough sligthly losing some athletithizam due to the injury are still very high). what impress me the most is his mental skills.
i spoke last year about the huge mental step garbajosa gonna through since returning from italy, from a very skilled player to a leader, a winner, a go-to-guy - generally the man to rellay on. well, rudy did it in age 21 (actually he did a year ago...). he is the main man. even when he doesn't score 20+ points he's in the drivers seat. he is the most importent player for the team. he is a fighter. i saw him (on and off the court) in EC2005 and his maturity just impressed me (keeping in mind he was just recovring from an injury than). there are few players who at this age posses this kind of mental approach to the game - and the ability to cash in the approach.
now - this is the main question, he can become one of the most dominant players in europe but i guess it will be harder for him to become that dominant (mainly mentaly as i pointed out) in the nba. i don't see a player of his kind which will probably won't be as dominant in scoring as - ahhmmm top european like dirk and gasol - getting the role he should get.
it kinda remind me of ginobli's situation. no doubt that manu did an impresseive nba carear but a large part of it is due to the team he plays for which can take some leadership. i fear that rudy, alongside some of the nba players (well, actually - in most teams i fear it will happen) will lose a lot of his effectiveness...

My favourite Spanish player at the moment... I really adore him. He really is a complete player. His style of play is very similar to Ginobilli's.

Definitely one of my favorite players too watch. One wonders how good he will become. He seems like he can be the total package. Him and Sergio Rodriguez will have the Spanish backcourt looking nice for years (not too mention what they have now).

Yeah, thats a really good comparation, but Ginobilli has much more "body" than rudy. Anyway, when he goes to NBA, coaches will take care of that.

I just love this man, when he is inspired he's virtually unstoppable. He could be the star of any first class team in Europe, but i think he just love Jouventut and he's waiting for the NBA. Just hope that wen he goes, he wont find a coach "macijauskas-in-NO" - style.

This weekend he played 29 minutes and scored 26 pts (FG 1-2, 3pt 5-9, FT 9-10). This guy's a machine...

    Default Rudy Fernandez

This guy definitely deserves a subject for what he is doing this year...

one month over 30 points per game in ACB, 1st at scoring and 5th at passing, nearly 100% of FT made. His fadeaways three points shots in your face, his high flying alleyoops, the passes for Moiso Alleyoops, all the little incredible actions. the fact he didn't want to leave without a Spanish title...
8 minutes, 20 points, 27 eval? Are you kidding me?

he may be the absolute best player in europe this year, he makes the show, he gets his team winning.

Just hope he wins Spanish title this year, and decide to go for on EL next year...

How much do Portland fans cry about him now Roy is injured?

well... you know my opinion about players leaving to NBA by now.

It's even worse with Rudy. I believe Joventut has some great chances to make it to euroleague next year, along with Rudy, having some good supporting cast and potentialy a good veteran along him to tutor him, actually Joventut has made a great job on him, it should be an exemplar way on how to develope a player. He has the intangibles to become a complete versatile SG (he isnt one yet, but definately does posses the talent to become one in a matter of 2-3 years)... could be a great basketball story and great career imo...

And than I get that complete nightmare picture of seeing Rudy in a team like Denver
    ...I rest my case.

I really think next step for him is the NBA. It's a shame that Joventut isn't in EL this year, they definitely have the level, well, you can't make an EL with 7 Spanish teams...
But, he has the game for the American league. He is ready. I just hope he'll stay a little more around here, and won't get behind Roy, or that those foolish NBA guys won't try to play him as PG, pr many things. I hope it won't be like Petrovic... But, he is just an enormous scorer.
i would say his career is already great... let's hope he'll stay few more years,in order for him to win it all.
I'm really in love with this guys...

ps: sorry Rikhardur, I missed your subject in the list.

Hmmm, what to say...he scores every game 25-30-35 points in European team-oriented basketball, and it is now usuall when he scores 30 points.
Really impressive. Probably my favorite guard in Europe right now.
He has it all - offense, defense, jump-shot, he is slasher, he can jump&dunk, really fast, leader...at age of 21.
He is maybe new Ginobili, right-handed.
He lacks only a few kilograms ...as Neozyrus said previously.

Yep, but he still adjusts well to contacts... he made a few mid range jumper after getting fouled.

He's going to the NBA next year, he said it many times, he said thet if he would like to continue in Europe, he would have accepted the huge offer that Barca did to him this summer. He said that he wanted to remain in Joventut one more year in order to put the team again in Euroleague and to help them to win a title again. He has already did one part (la Copa) and is about to do the other. Hes going to the NBA, i just hope he will get traded to another club, or that Portland fire McMillan and put another coach (Messina would be perfect ).

Blazers' GM Kevin Pritchard wants to sign Rudy for the upcoming season. It should be difficult due to Rudy's contract situation, though.

His contract situtaion will alow him to go whenever he wants, last summer he signed again with Joventut but with the condition that when he decided to go to NBA, the club wouldnt put any obstacle.

His NBA clause is about 400.000 euros, so he could pay it without problems.
