Default Another black eye for the NBA

    check this out...

    Denver 123, New York 100

NEW YORK, Dec. 16 (AP) -- Ten players, including NBA scoring leader Carmelo Anthony, were ejected during an on-court incident near the end of Saturday night's game between the Denver Nuggets and New York Knicks.

All 10 players on the court at the time were tossed for their involvement in the incident that spread across the court and spilled into the crowd at Madison Square Garden.

Anthony scored 34 points before the melee took place with 1:15 left in the Nuggets' 123-100 victory over the Knicks.

Denver led 119-100 when Knicks guard Mardy Collins grabbed Denver's J.R. Smith around the neck as Smith was going in for a breakaway layup. Smith got up and jawed with Collins, and New York's Nate Robinson jumped in to yell at Smith.

"They were having their way with us,'' Knicks coach Isiah Thomas said. "I think J.R. Smith had just made one dunk when he reversed and spun in the air. And I think Mardy didn't want our home crowd to see that again. So he fouled him.''

Anthony rushed in and pushed Robinson in the neck, triggering the roughest moment, when Robinson and Smith went flying into the stands while fighting with each other. Anthony also appeared to throw a punch at Collins, and then backed away toward the center of the court.

New York's Jared Jeffries ran from the baseline toward Anthony, but was tackled by a Denver player. The brawl stretched to the other end of the court toward the Nuggets' bench before coaches and security finally pulled Smith away and restored order.

Marcus Camby, Andre Miller, Eduardo Najera, Smith and Anthony were the Nuggets who were ejected; Channing Frye, David Lee, Collins, Robinson and Jeffries were the Knicks who were kicked out.

"Clearly this isn't how we or the NBA wants to be perceived,'' Thomas said. "It should have been a foul and the guy takes two free throws and maybe some words, but it shouldn't have escalated. This isn't even a rivalry.''

NBA spokesman Tim Frank said the league would "review the incident in its entirety. Until then, it would not be appropriate to comment.''

With each team forced to put five new players on the floor, Denver finished up the win and ended a two-game losing streak. Camby had 24 points and nine rebounds, and Miller added 12 points and 10 assists.

edit only pushing, showing and trashtalking. Learn how to fight and KO someone. Carmelo was having great position to send Nate aka mr superduper gengster to the nearest hospital.

    Turkan vs Haislip was better

Carmelo may have had the guts to put his fists where his mouth was...but then he rushed for his teams bench. That wasn't very manly of him

Hit and run tactic...mongols spanked eastern europe with the same.

Gosh thats fight not gentleman duel. Melo is having mission accomplished in my book-he send Mardy Collins to the floor. If only Melo used the moment when JJeffries was holded back to nail him to the ground

Another funny thing is that somebody tries to stop Carmelo from leaving. And then there's Nate - he starts running after Carmelo holding hands like boxer, but suddenly looses any interest in fighting and hides in the crowd

Carmelo gets 15 games suspension while Nate Robinson gets 10 and Mardy Collins gets 6!
Just like 2 years before when Artest was out 4 the season and the Pistons' boxers got 5-10 games...Another sign of how Mr Stern understands justice and punishment...unfortunately 4 him the pistons didn't win the title that year(just like he gave it 2 them the year before) neither will the nuggets b eliminated from the playoffs
btw I believe the punch was carmelo's version of "run n' gun" the nuggets used 2 play like this once so he decided 2 bring back that style!!

Those three Pacers players got their huge bans for going up in the stands fighting spectators, it is not comparable at all to the scene at Madison Square Garden. I think the length of the suspension is all right. It is not the first time that we've seen some punches getting thrown like that, so let's not overrate the incident.

I couldn't agree more with the comment by Dan Wetzel on Yahoo Sports that I just read. He basically said that the latest MSG brawl isn't comparable to let's say that Zo - Larry Johnson thing because both Knicks and Nuggets do not play hard basketball like Knicks and Heat did in the nineties. Back then, both teams would fight and play hard and emotional for 48 minutes, today they just pretend they're hard but play sluggish defense instead. Why make a hard foul down 19 with 90 seconds to play, when you haven't done that for 46 and a half minutes? And you could see that behaviour in the brawl too. Throwing a punch and then backing off. That's the thing that seperates this brawl from those we've seen before.
