Of course it would. This is one of those anthropocentric philosophical riddles that are a complete waste of time in my opionion (not a big fan of Philosophy I have to admit ).

Ah, the Epimenides paradox. Such a fun way to pass the time.

Here's the ancient story for those of you who need to get schooled:
    1. Epimenides is a Cretan.
    2. Epimenides states, "All Cretans are liars."
So, if Epimenides is a Cretan and is telling the truth about that, then he's lying about telling the truth; there is a paradox, right?

    Solution here.

Sound is not defined by the presence of someone to hear it. Sounds are waves that are created invariably when certain physical events occur. Whether there is someone there to hear them is totally irrelevant.

    Coming back to it:

The problem is how one defines sound. Is it the air waves created from physical events or is it the subjective perception of these wave? (i.e. the conversion of the waves into sensory perception by the cochlea and subequently by the thalamocortical auditory system)?.

I suspect that the person who came up with this question (Whether a falling tree would make a sound if no-one is there to hear it) perceived sound as the latter. In my opinion, sound is not the conversion of the air waves to perception but the waves themselves. A falling tree will invariably (i.e. always) create those waves and therefore will always produce "sound".

so anyways I took this friggin psych/logic class last summer and absolutely hated it. i saw no point to it. i remember than Cretan example mktingleberry stated that was funny because it got the whole class all in this heated debate for some reason....yes a bunch of cowboys, literally, took it tot he next level; something to do with the cows they were raising in their ranch and its relation to the Cretan point. i just thought it was funny.
