Thanks for the vids EverGreen, I had never seen him in action before. He has good mobility for a 210cm+ player and he seems a good shooter. Is he also good at 3-point range? He reminded me a bit of Bargnani in those vids.
Do you believe he'll play for Greece btw?

    Y

    Your welcome about the vids.

I don't know if he'll play for the NT one day. He's still too young (only 17). I guess he'll have to called up some point and we'll see how "Greek" he feels.

From what I've read in other places his play is simular to Mehmet Okur and is expected to be in the top 10 NBA drafts in the future.

If I recall an early interview of his he said that he is tired of being called "the greek" as he feels primarily American. Of course this doesn't mean that he would not be interested in playing for the Greek NT. I guess it all depends on his development and how the greek Fed deals with the issue.

If he doesnt feel Greek, then there shouldn't be any reason for him to be called up. One mercianary (Ledkov- Tsakalidis) was enough. Bourousis broke into tears when he was cut from the team this summer. We need players with his commitment and love.

He is a very good prospect for sure, he can easily and lawfully get a Greek passport if he doesn't have one yet.
Noone knows how good he'll become it's too early he is still in high school playing against average competition...
He's committed to Ohio State so we should be able to see more of him next year.
I am sure Yiannakis keeps an eye on him, but first he is too young and need probably 2-3 years to play well, develop and stay healthy before being considered seriously and second we don't know if he'd prefer to play for Greece... He might as well not be eligible if he's already played in any U18 tournament with the US nt.

I like that approach... if you don't feel patriotic, why be here?

I'd probably do the same ... why? well though my mind says I'm an Aussie, my heart says I'm a Filipino (or as we Filipinos call ourselves in Australia, "FILO") ... also, bloody hell, I look Filipino anyway ... though I definitely don't sound Filipino.

I Prefer Abdul Hassan Mohammed that wants to play for Greece than Kostas Koufos who says he is not Greek.

Panagiotis Giannakis visited Koufos and his family in the States: http://www.sport24.gr/html/ent/568/ent.167568.asp

According to what Giannakis says in that article, Koufos speaks greek. It seems that there's a decent possibility that he'll get a greek passport and that he'll play in the U18 European Championship for Greece this summer.

Will be interesting to see how this story continues...

He would have changed his name by now, to John Cue instaid of Kostas Koufos if he didn't feel Hellenic, just like my cousins who changed their names from Athanassios to Tom (WTF?!) Antonios to Tony and so goes on...

I agree, but having him playing for Greece would certainly be good. If Giannakis already paid a visit to him (with his consent of course) my opinion is that the possibilty of Koufos joining the NT it's more close than far. At least if he had already made up his mind not to join the NT I'm almost sure Giannakis wouldn't even bother going there to talk to him.

    NBA Comparison: Mehmet Okur

Here comes Tsakalidis 2, he doesn't even want to be known as he is from Greece

Dear TP your comments are starting to tire even me, and I can honestly tell you that I am the last person who would ever feel any anti-Turk feelings. This is an international board where people who love bball get together to talk. So, please, get over it.

There is no way you can compare Tsakalidis' situation with Koufos'.

    1. I read somewhere that Tsakalidis now actually wants to come to the Greek nt. Of course, I have no idea if he is needed (as a matter of fact I do but nevertheless).

    2. According to Sport24, it seems Koufos will probably join the nt. And the fact that someone is tired of being called "the Greek" doesn't mean he doesn't feel Greek or that he wouldn't want to be a part of the nt. The one has nothing to do with the other.

    3. But of course he can compare them. He seems to be doing that a lot. Comparing whatever things he feels like comparing.

No matter how hard u r trying 2 make greek posters write anti-turkish comments, still u haven't made it.We r here because we r bball fans, not in order 2 "fight" with other nationalities. If u don't agree with that comparison(I don't know where u found it) there r other ways 2 express it.I assume though that u haven't seen a video of the guy play and still u compare him 2 Tsakalidis!
