    Default Giorgi Shermadini

Last round in the Georgian league Giorgi Shermadini,Georgian 216 cm kid born in 1989(he listed as a 1989 born kid, but its always should be in doubt with those Georgians), set up a new record scoring 52 points for the game against TSU.
In Round 15 even better-he poured in 60 points and made 17 rebounds and 7 assists.
    Who is this anonymous fellow?
Ive heard he invited to the Nike Hoops summit too,so it must be an intriguing prospect.
    The next Pachulia?
    Or maybe even better..?

Wow that's just amazing. I hadn't heard about him yet. Georgia keeps producing good players, and judging by that kid it seems that the level is rising. Georgia certainly deserves it for its basketball tradition. If anyone has any vids or clips of him (especially from those two games) please post, I really got interested.

I heard about him before two years. His games are amazing, if he is born in 89. But you could never now what they are doing in Georgia. About Pauchila there are also rumours that he is 2 years older.

Here are two little articles about this not anonymous kid anymore(from Eurobasket):

    About Giorgi Shermadini

    by Irakli Zoidze - Mar 8, 2007
"Giorgi Shermadini was born in a georgian countryside and had not got any exposure to the professional sport till turning 16 year old in 2005. None could have then spotted a future athlete in a clumsy 210 cm giant of less than 85 kilos weight. Giorgi's basketball studies started in January 2005.
Giorgi Shermadini was born in a georgian countryside and had not got any exposure to the professional sport till turning 16 year old in 2005. None could have then spotted a future athlete in a clumsy 210 cm giant of less than 85 kilos weight.

Giorgi's basketball studies started in January 2005. Despite the widespread skepticism, he had managed to sustain a strenuous training regime imposed by his manager (and life-coach) Jamlet Khukhashvili and was able to join the reserve squad of Maccabi-Tbilisi basketball club. He soon became the top scorer of the reserve squads' Georgian championship (eventually producing an 89 pts game with 32-out-of-34 free throws scoring).

In the new season of 2006\2007 it was high time for Giorgi to join the main squad of Maccabi-Tbilisi in the Georgian basketball league which no longer has a downbeat appearance of 4-5 years before. Many seasoned players are making return to the home turf from various European leagues lured by rapidly raising salaries and opportunities created by the overall economic growth in the country.

The competition in the ‘centers department' is especially tough but Giorgi has made a definite impact by becoming the top scorer of the league (28 pts on average) and also leading the rebounds standings with 16 per game.

In September 2006 Shermadini made his debut in the national team of Georgia rubbing shoulders with acclaimed NBA players like Zaza Pachulia and Nikoloz Tskitishvili. He has also been getting some international exposure by attending NBA-led summer camps in berlin 2005 and in Vilnius in 2006.

Last but not the least - it is not only the Giorgi's basketball pedigree which keeps expanding. Now he weighs 111kg and is 216.5 cm. His physicians are confident that 220 cm is round the corner.

On the Memorial of Olympic champions Zurab Sakandelidze and Michael Korkia Giorgi Shermadini has established a record of the championship of Georgia. He has made 54 PTS and 16 rebounds in match against the owners of a Cup of Georgia - team “TSU”. By the way, he has received a special prize for the best parameters of tournament. Recently he has good parameters not only on 2-points, but also on 3-points. On training he has made from 20 - 20 3-points. Giorgi has made a definite impact on the game emerging as the top scorer of the league (34 PTS, 14 rebounds and 2,6 block-shots on average) and he also distinguishes the resulting assists.

In one match with STU Tbilisi Shermadini made 76 PTS, 6 APG, 16 RPG.

May God give more talents to Georgia like Giorgi Shermadini".

and a few words about Giorgi and his brother,Soso:

"There was a small village "Natakhtari" where two tall brothers were growing up. They are brother Shermadinis. One of the top leading centers of Georgian highest league. Soso Shermadini (208-C-86) is very strong, athletic and smart Center/Forward with fighting character who always plays for team and another Shermadini named Giorgi who is one of the well known youngster Georgian player worldwide. Member of the Nike Hoop Summit world's team and one of the most forecasting 2008 NBA Draft pick. This week his statistics were following: 43 points and 12 rebounds while his brother scored 28 points and 6 rebounds. It is really hard to say that there were others in Maccabi T. who did job for their team comparing Shermadinis. They together scored 71 points from 92 but unfortunantely lost with STU Tbilisi. STU played their hardest game and took care of the game in last period. Active player from STU's roster was Gigi Barbakadze (196-F-91) who had 30 points".

So Shermadini made his debut with Panathinaikos and scored 4 points (2-2 FG, 0-2 FT), grabbed 2 rebounds and dished 1 assist in 6 minutes. Not bad
Did Obradović use him as a centre or power forward?

Not bad for Shermadini in his first game with Panathinaikos.
I can't believe that he's only been playing ball for less than 4 years. Considering that he's just 19 i'm sure that he could end up as one of the greatest Georgian players to ever play the game.

Shermandini played only as a Center.

I would like to see him play at the PF position with Batiste or Pecovic in at Center.

He can move very well outside the paint and he has the shooting touch from outside.

He has a strong body but he dont have the bulk to defend many Centers in the post.

So maybe if they use him sometimes as a PF he will have the size advantage with his 2,16 frame.

Despite all these Coach Obrandovic showed that he wanted to see how well can he play the pick en roll and hiw post game.

In the post he didnt show anything because only one time they tried to feed him in the post but Egaleo's Center Patterson came in front of him and deflected the ball, but in the most of the pick en roll scenarios he was very good.

In addition he haw to improve his positioning at the defencing end.

Offensively he is just terrific and a great addition for the greens.

That's the first think I thought about when I saw these videos. He looks a little like a cheap house frame. Now, I'm a little critical, because Shermadini is very, very young and most big basketball players at that age are lanky without much muscle. So, yeah, like you said, he needs more bulk.
Despite alla these Coach Obrandovic showed that he wanted to see how well can he play the pick en roll and hiw post game.
Yes, that pick and roll with Nicholas (?) was very cool. Nice little dunk, too.

Thanks for posting, Mikan. I think we all look forward to hearing more from you.

He desperately needs more bulk! At one point, he was pushed around by Kallinikidis, a tough 1,97 forward seen on the photo with number 13.

Any specific reason as to why he didn't play today against Aris?
