Default The future of the greek NT

I was just wondering what young talents does greece have to fill the spots of retiring players after the 2008 olympics. So i made a list of the current roster and players i know that could fight for a spot in the NT in the future. Maybe i forget somebody or not know of somebody- let me know

    current roster:

    PG's
    Papaloukas('77)
    Diamantidis('80)
    Zisis('83)

    SG's
    Hatzivrettas('77)
    Spanoulis('82)

    SF's
    Vassilopoulos('84)

    PF's
    Dikoudis('77)
    Tsartsaris('79)
    Fotsis('81)
    Kakiouzis('76)

    C's
    Papadopoulos('80)
    Schortsanitis('85)

    and here are some candidates:

    PG's: Milosevic('86), Papamakarios('80), Verginis ('87)
    SG's: Kalathes('89), Kyritsis('82), Vassiliadis('84),Pelekanos('81),
    SF's: Sigounas ('88), Perperoglou ('84),Jankovic('88), Noeas('87)
    PF's: Sakota('86), Printezis('85), Manolopoulos('87)
    C's: Bourousis('83), Mavrokefalidis(?), Vouyoukas(?), Koufos('89)

some people may even consider Glyniadakis('81), Tsakalidis('79), Tapoutos, Kommatos, Diamantopoulos , but not me

Now the players that should be leaving after the beijing olympics are: Kakiouzis, Hatzivrettas, Dikoudis and Papaloukas. While the future looks bright at Center and SG, it doesn't look so bright at SF.

Jankovic is a sf. Noeas is a sf as well. Palekanos is closer to a sg.
Calathes will probably not play to the nt..

Otherwise, well thought one. I can see some future after the Olympics as well...

Is Nick Calathes of Greek descent? I was watching the McDonalds game for high school seniors and was wondering the same thing...
His name might also be Hispanic, I don't know...
It's good that in English his last name means Bucket or Basket
He showed good skills mainly handling and shooting the ball although he seems to be an above the average but not outstanding athlete...
Kosta Koufos played mostly in the first half, it seems he has to work on his defense and speed... Both guys have pretty promising future at this point I have to say

I mean retirement from the NT. At the eurobasket 2009 Kakiouzis will be 33. Dikoudis, Hatzivrettas and Papaloukas will be 32. Maybe Papaloukas could still be playing but i can't say the same for the other 3. Younger guys need their chances also.

Nick is more of a greek name than a hispanic one. I think he's of greek descent.

I believe Calathes is of Greek descent too. Also, him and Koufos played O.J. Mayo and Corey Strokes in two 2-on-2 drills and won both narrowly.

Calathes was impressive in the Micky-D game.

Koufos has to earn a spot on the U-20 team before even talking of the senior team.

I'd also keep an eye on Nikos Pappas (1990, PG - Panellinios) and Giannis Karavasanis (1988, SF, Olympia Larissa), both already belong to A1 teams and already got a (little little) little bit of playing time this season. I'd also add Alexandros Sigounas (1988, SF, Panionios), who also got a little bit of time in 5 A1 games this season.

A raw Center talent is Giorgos Bogris of Ilysiakos (1989), who averages 17,4mpg, 5.4ppg and 4rpg in the A2 this season. He still needs a lot of time though and one can't really call him a future player for the greek NT atm.

Most of the players of the current squad had their breakthrough season at the age of 23-24 and were not considered huge talents in junior levels. So I really believe that even though most of the candidates don't seem to be in the same level as the current ones, they are gonna turn out to be just as good in the future.

from what I heard from the supersport sportcasters during the ncaa final's bradcasting, he has greek origins(sth like his great grandfather was greek), but he doesn't have a greek passport.they also said that it's rather difficult that he will play 4 the greek NT.

I know he played for the "Nike U.S.A. Elite" team in the 2006 Douai Tournament (along with Chase Budinger, Thadius Young and the Lopez brothers). He was the fifth best scorer in the tournament.

I don't get it.Domercant is an one-dimensional shooter who can play defence. Therefore he would b useful 4 the system of PAO.Hoskin is no superstar but he can play (without holding a european passport) 4 more than half greek teams. They weren't supposed 2 b stars so what's so bad with them???

Let's stop calling all the greek players of PAO so the NT can find it's way.
