Poland targets 'gay' Teletubbies

A senior Polish official has ordered psychologists to investigate whether the popular BBC TV show Teletubbies promotes a homosexual lifestyle.



The spokesperson for children's rights in Poland, Ewa Sowinska, singled out Tinky Winky, the purple character with a triangular aerial on his head.

"I noticed he was carrying a woman's handbag," she told a magazine. "At first, I didn't realise he was a boy."

EU officials have criticised Polish government policy towards homosexuals.

Ms Sowinska wants the psychologists to make a recommendation about whether the children's show should be broadcast on public television.

Poland's authorities have recently initiated a series of moves to outlaw the promotion of homosexuality among the nation's children.

Tinky Winky's psychological evaluation is being treated fairly light-heartedly by many people here.

One radio station asked its listeners to vote for the most suspicious children's show. Some e-mailed in, saying that Winnie the Pooh had only male friends.

Even Ms Sowinska has backtracked a little, insisting that she does not believe the Teletubbies is a threat to the nation's children. But the evaluation is still going ahead and her office can recommend that the show should be taken off the air.

Poland was criticised recently after its education ministry announced plans to sack teachers who promote homosexuality.

Last month the European Union singled out Poland for criticism in its resolution condemning homophobia in the 27-member bloc.

That's not new actually, the issue came up some years ago when the programme started being broadcasted. What is sad is that Poland is more and more conservative and leaning towards the suppression of rights and so these days with the Kaczyński twins.

The guy dresses up in a girl's skirt at times, carries around that woman's red purse... What the heck - thought I - this must be a female in the original movie, while our Lithuanian translators muffed up.

But wait, he's a boy in the original movie as well. Don't know about "gay life style", but we sure have a case of transvestism here.

So true, i can't believe Poland is taking this up now and they haven't learned from America's experience with this.... the "gay Teletubbies" was made an "issue" here in the states like 4 years ago. And the guy that mentioned it, I believe it was Jerry Falwall, was basically made a laughingstock throughout newscasts, the media, and late-night television.

I thought it was the pink triangle (after the NAZIs used it to identify(sic) them; purple triangles for religious minorities such as Jehova's Witnesses). Though, I've seen black triangles for lesbians...not sure what the whole triangle this is for though.

The article talks about "subtle messages" in children's TV programmes. This is nothing new actually. Many many children's songs we sang at kindergarden so innocently do also have very very subtle and hidden yet intricate sexual meanings as well that we understood much later on, yet they are still lovely children songs, and sang even today by most children. All nations have this type of children songs

I mean if you want to see "sex" or "gay" everywhere you look, you WILL. That's why nowadays, just watch any YouTube video, there will always be somebody who will say: oh this is so sexy, oh this is so gay. People can see gay in anything I suppose.

Usually researchers confine homosexuality to 5 and at most 10% of the world population. That's the general impression. For openly and exclusively gay people, it doesn't go to double digits... and that's an educated guess.

But judging from YouTube comments and videos, it seems a clear overwhelming population of the world, particularly world youth, is very very gay. It is so fashionable and cool to be gay and act gay. And, if you don't mind me saying, the world is getting even gay-er and gay-er by the day. Eventually straights need to start organizing "straight pride parades" just once a year, with the obviously majority gay population on the sidewalks cheering them and supporting the straights' rights to be different

For the rest of the year, straights will be confined to the Straights' Village just to feel safe from abuse....
