the reason why the naturalization process of Zheng comes to halt is the fact that we can be Southeast asin champs without her even we can be queens ao asean region without out top big lady(tioseco)..

but if we want to include ourselves to the equation with China, Korea, japan and Taiwan we need Zheng as our top slotman with a couple of more fil am players

For those Filipino Basketball players born outside the Philippines and has future plans of trying out for the Philippine National Team and/or playing professionally at the Philippine Basketball Association, the first step to be taken is for said player to secure his/her Dual Citizenship plus Philippine Passport at the nearest Philippine Embassy or Consulate, its best if this could be done prior to the player's 15th birthday.

I was playing at Meralco Gym earlier with my office mates and a lady wearing a Pilipinas jersey join us. She seems to be a fil-am, maybe 5'10/11, decent handles, fantastic shooting stroke. I don't know if she's a member of NT though. She had 2 male companions waiting for her outside the gym thats either american or fil-am.

Sorry sir Nardy, wasn't able to get her name. We we're all too shy since she doesn't seem to speak tagalog lol and she was kicking our ass. I'll try to get her name next time. According to my office mate, she also played last week. Maybe she'll play again next week.

anna pineda was already part of the RP women's team. I dont know the reason why she was not able to play in the 2011 SEAgames.

Discovery Perlas advances to semis of 3rd Asian Beach Games
    June 18, 2012 11:56am

The Philippine women’s 3-on-3 basketball team Discovery Perlas ng Pilipinas advanced to the semifinals of the third Asian Beach Games basketball tourney on Monday, boasting of a 2-1 slate in Group A.

Comprised of Analyn Almazan, Merenciana Arayi, Melissa Jacob and Allana May Lim, and coached by Haydee Ong with assistant Gina Francisco, the quartet drew Thailand, India and Nepal in the elimination round games.

The ladies got off to a hot start on Sunday, dominating Nepal 20-1, but they came back down to Earth later that day, losing 9-14 to Indonesia.

On Monday, they managed to squeak by Thailand 11-10, to give them a 2-1 record, good enough to advance to the next round.

They'll face their biggest challenge yet later on Monday, an undefeated China team that is on top of the Group B standings.

3-on-3 basketball is a 10-minute, half-court game, one that eliminates transition opportunities, and puts the focus on skill and fundamental play, not sheer athleticism.

The third Asian Beach Games opened last June 16 in the coastal city of Haiyang, located in the province of Shandong, China. The week-long athletic meet has 49 gold medals at stake over 13 different sports.

Discovery Perlas fall to China, will battle for third versus Mongolia

    June 19, 2012 9:27am

The Philippine women's 3-on-3 basketball team Discovery Perlas ng Pilipinas came up a point short on Monday, losing 10-9 against host team China in the semifinal round of the third Asian Beach Games basketball tournament.

The tightly-contested affair saw the Philippines jump out to a 3-0 start, but China came right back to tie it at 3-all, the first of six deadlocks. But the locals held on from that point to advance to the gold medal game, despite having less rebounds (18 to 24) and failing to register a single assist.

Both teams shot under 30 percent from the field, and hit an identical 2-of-3 from the free throw line.

China's four-woman roster boasted of an average age of 16.25 years, in sharp contrast to the Philippine ladies' average age of 25. Still, youthful exuberance trumped veteran savvy in this game, and China will next face India in the finals, a team that had beaten the Philippines 14-9 in the elimination round.

Discovery Perlas on the other hand will contest Mongolia in the bronze medal match on Tuesday. - AMD, GMA News

Discovery Perlas women bring home bronze in 3-on-3 hoops tourney

    June 19, 2012 3:40pm

The Philippine women's 3-on-3 basketball team Discovery Perlas ng Pilipinas wrapped up their campaign with a gutsy bronze medal finish, coming from behind to drop Mongolia 16-15, Tuesday in the third Asian Beach Games basketball tournament.

Like in their semifinal game versus China, the Philippines came out strong, posting a 3-0 start, but Mongolia struck back with four unanswered, to lead early on.

Six ties and four lead changes later, Discovery Pilipinas stood tall and proud, getting the win thanks to a 24-6 advantage in points in the paint, while shooting better than 50 percent.

Mongolia leaned on their outside shooting, hitting a full third of their two-point shots (the 3-on-3 equivalent of a three-pointer), but superior rebounding (19-15) and a 5 to 1 edge in the steals department by the Filipino ladies spelt the difference.

Allana Lim and Merenciana Arayi led Discovery Perlas with seven points each, while the team's third starter, Analyn Almazan, went scoreless, but made up for it with six boards, four assists and a steal.

Melissa Jacob added two points and three boards off the bench. - AMD, GMA News

i was able to listen the live feed via sports radio 918 the semis games between china and the philippines. we were leading by 1 point until in the dying minutes when momentum shitfts to china. There was an offensive foul called on lim but the important part of the game is that there were no freethrow given to melissa jacob as she was fouled by china.

breaks of the game always favor the host country.

I think Zheng went back to her hometown in China.I think the SBP should think of naturalizing an American or even some African player who could go through the slow process of naturalization. That's if SBP still has a budget for this.

from what I heard with SMART Communications being the sponsor for the Mens National Team, it was MVP who took care of the "facilitation costs" needed in order for the Congressmen and Senators to pass into law regarding the Bill on Douthit.

However Discovery Suites being the sponsor of the Womens National Team, does not have that kind of money in order to get Zheng naturalized.

Fact is not all National Teams get the same assistance from MVP even if he is the SBP President.

    Storm brewing in UAAP
SPORTING CHANCE By Joaquin Henson The Philippine Star Updated July 26, 2012 12:00 AM

The UAAP is up in arms over a coach of a national team demanding players to abandon their school or lose the privileges of a Philippine Sports Commission (PSC)-sponsored athlete. A ranking UAAP Board member confided that two players have left their varsity teams under duress to remain with the national squad but one chose to stay with her school.

The issue will reportedly come to a head when the UAAP Board convenes for a meeting on Aug. 1. If a position is taken to denounce the coach, the UAAP will push for her termination at an SBP Board meeting on Aug. 3. If the SBP does nothing about it, the UAAP may cease to support SBP activities pertinent to the controversial national team.

“Why is the UAAP being held hostage by this coach?” wondered a UAAP official. “Why was she fired by the school where she was the varsity coach? Why is she demanding that players choose between playing for the national team or playing for the school? Is it because she wants to decimate the lineups of certain schools to enhance the chances of her favorite school? The allowance given by the PSC is substantial and national players rely on that for subsistence. It’s unfair to make that demand. There is no international commitment that conflicts with the UAAP schedule so why is the choice necessary? A FIBA-Asia tournament in November has been postponed so there is no urgent need for the national team to be in hard training at this stage.”

If the UAAP takes a stand against the coach, it will push for the SBP to sack the apparent dictator-in-disguise. “The SBP has the authority to hire or fire a national basketball coach,” said the UAAP official. “We support the SBP and what it stands for but this issue of a national coach demanding that players choose between playing for their school or the national team must be addressed right away.”
