Brad Newley isn’t the only player with links to the NBL that’s trying to earn a coveted NBA contract at the Summer League in Las Vegas.
Former New Zealand Breakers import Rich Melzer is playing at the NBA Summer League for the San Antonio Spurs and impressed in his team’s 79-68 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Melzer scored 12 points off the bench, adding four rebounds and one assist in 18 minutes of play.
South Australian centre Luke Schenscher played in the same match for the Timberwolves and had the modest totals of two points and one rebound in eight minutes court time. The Adelaide 36ers have been targeting Schenscher for years and will no doubt have been watching the redhead’s efforts with interest.
Brisbane Bullets import Ebi Ere is also playing in the tournament with the Los Angeles Lakers and had eight points, three rebounds, three assists and one block in 17 minutes in his team’s first game, a 98-85 loss to Phildelphia.
Nice to see a solid number of Australian associated players in this year´s summer league.
