    Default Basketball Tryouts in Israel?

Does anyone know if there are any open tryouts for Israeli teams?

I just made aliyah 2 weeks ago and I'm interested in playing. I live in the south and there's many teams around me but I don't know how to get about contacting them.

Several years ago, right after high school, I lived in Jerusalem for some time. While there I got put in touch with and practiced with some Jerusalem teams. At the time, a Jerusalem coach told me that I would always be welcomed back. I've since lost those contact names/numbers and just made Aliyah here in the south (near Netivot).

Any information on how tryouts work or names and contacts would be helpful. If nothing else, I would just like to find a place to practice and play some pick up games to get back into playing shape.

    Thanks,
    Michael

The closest team to me that I know of (from reading on the internet) is Be'eri but, I haven't been able to get in to the kibbutz to see about playing (I don't speak Hebrew yet). I don't know where all the teams are located. I'm also close to Netivot but I'm not aware of a team there.

At this point I'm basically just looking for a place to get back in shape and see how the basketball scene is. I'm not sure what 'level' I fit in here. I know I'm not ready for the top league at this point but maybe one of the sub divisions.

As for me, I'm a strong forward at 6'8" and 265lbs (about 203 cm and 120 kg I think) and 28 years old. The only organized ball I have played was in high school. When I was in Jerusalem after high school, I was trying to decide what to do. I think I held my own when I practiced with the Jerusalem teams. I think I had the opportunity to play basketball in Jerusalem at that time but decided to go back to the states for college etc. I practiced for the university of Tennessee and they were interested in offering me a scholarship to play. Because of my trip to Israel after high school, I missed the time frame to receive a scholarship and decided to wait a year. I then married before going to college and decided not to go.

If anyone knows any contacts with the Be'eri team or any other teams in this area, I would appreciate some information.

    Thanks,
    Michael

You can use Safsal's "Virtual Agent". Just send them an Email with your info until this Thursday, and they will post it Friday.

Basically the invitations for training there are out of date. The only thing relevant for you there is to send a mail to safsal@safsal.co.il, leaving your name (can be your first name only), number and the area in Israel where you want to play. They will publish it, so teams that are interested can contact you later on.

    Good luck!

Thank you Digdis. I email them and asked them to post something similar to this:

My name is Michael. I am 28 years old, about 203 cm tall with a 218 cm arm span. I usually play a strong 4. I just made aliyah and currently live in Shokeda which is between Be'eri and Netivot. I'm currently looking for a place to play to get started in Israeli basketball. The best way to contact me right now is **** (you can email me through these forums)

Sounds good, beside the fact that I wouldn't publish my email on a public forum (here I mean)...

To update: I've been in touch with the Be'eri coach and manager and will visit them in the next week or so for a practice. Thanks for the help!

Good luck! You seem to have both physical parameters and strong will in order to make it.

Default Australian basketballer interested in paying basketball in Israel

    Hi,

I am a 21 year old Basketballer from Australia and I am extremely interested in playing Basketball in Israel. I just recently returned from 3 months in Israel where I spent the majority of my time watching division 2 basketball and division 1 Basketball.

I have played basketball at the high school level in America and I have been offered a scholarship at a division 2 university in Philadelphia. I was also a member of the 2005 Australian youth Basketball team competing in the Maccabiah.
Does anyone know of how I can get in contact with someone to play Division 1 or 2 Basketball in Israel?

    Cheers.

    Hi,

    All contact details ( phones, faxes, e-mails) of Ligat-Al ( Israeli Division 1 ) teams you can find here : http://www.basket.co.il/default_eng.asp?lang=en ( click below "Teams 2008-09" )

Division 2 teams are here: http://www.safsal.co.il/standings.aspx?id=3
No details there though , you would have to google team's name for contact details.

Nearly all bbl related people in Israel speak fluent English, so it won't be a problem.

Since you participated in Maccabiah , I guess it won't be a trouble for you to get Israeli passport : it could be a huge advantage.

BTW, what's the situation with Australian BBL league? Is it really canceled ?

Hey, my name is Ben Shellim, i am a 20 year old combo guard from Melbourne, Australia. I can make Aliyah, which can be a huge advantage.

I currently play in the BigV State Championship Division which is the top state league in Victoria. Last season i played for the Melbourne Tigers in the BigV and also trained full time with the Melbourne Tigers NBL side.

I am extremely interested in playing professionally in Israel. I just need to some help getting in contact with teams. Does anyone know how i can get in contact with some pro teams?

    Thanks!
