Default The Top 10 Players in these Olympics.

Please list your opinion of who the top 10 players were in these Olympics according to performance (I understand this will be somewhat difficult and arguable, but that's what makes it fun!):

    1. Dwyane Wade
    2. Yao
    3. Pau
    4. Lebron
    5. Luis Scola
    6. Ginobli
    7. Rudy Fernandez
    8. Dirk
    9. Antonios Fotsis (biggest surprise for me)
    10 (tie..I know this is cheating ). Sarinus Jasikevicius/Kobe/Kirelinko

Honorable Mention: Holden, Spanoulis, Mills, Delfino, Planinic

Also, what would be your 1st team and 6th man from this tournament?

    Mine would be

    C-Yao
    PF-Pau
    SF-Lebron
    SG- Wade
    PG- Prigioni
    6th Man - Manu

Linas Kleiza BTW is the most disappointing player in this Beijing Olympics.

..Credit to USA coach, Mike Krzyzewski(is the spelling right??), great job in leading the US "redeem team"..

I have to agree with Coach K. I despise him at Duke and I thought the US would play like his Duke teams, shoot way too many threes and no post presence. I was even cringing at the thought of players slapping the floor. But, he did a very nice job of pushing the right buttons and keeping the focus of the team.

    As for the players;

    1st Team
    PG-Chris Paul
SG-Kobe Bryant (He gets the choice based on the Gold Medal game)
    SF-Dwyane Wade
    PF-LeBron James (MVP)
    C-Pau Gasol

    2nd Team
    PG-Vasilius Spanoulis
    SG-Rudy Fernandez
    SF-Manu Ginobili
PF-Dirk Nowitski (He was all alone and still performed)
    C-Dwight Howard

How are you gonna play us like that?

I'm surprised at the Rubio inclusions--I thought he really struggled.

I also had difficulty picking other players from Spain besides Pau because they were so well balanced.

I love Dirk but no way was he in the top 10 (or even 20) in this tournament.
The Euroleague Organization and Mr Bertomeu are like the Bulgarian Government: corrupt, partially stupid, and a huge underestimator of people's intelligence.

i had a hard time ranking them from 1-10 they all were impressive, that's why i decided to place them in a random order

Fotsis, along with Zisis, Diamantidis and Papaloukas, were the worst players of the Greek NT. I don't understand, why you're putting Fotsis up there. On the other hand, Spanoulis was the only one, playing 100% for his NT.

I think he might be a bit of a reach in the top-10, but I would never say that he struggled. He was the main factor in the Spanish victories over China (along Gasol) and Germany (he was THE MAN there). Considering that he was pretty solid in the other games, I do think his performance was quite notable.

I don't buy this--I understand performing well in a game or two--but I was rating it based on their overall averaged performance so I used a decent bit of stats too in my evaluation. There's no doubt Rubio was a good pick pocket and also a suprisingly solid rebounder, but at pg he had an assist/to ratio of 1.5--which isn't that great.

More importantly, he shot 17% from three and less than 30% from the field overall . Certainly one can say his role is not one of a scorer..but those numbers are unacceptable for somebody who's supposed to be top 10 or who supposedly had a good tournament in my opinion.

As for Fotsis...he was an efficient scorer from 2 and 3..hit the boards hard and played solid defense. Spanoulis was a good scorer (though somewhat underwhelming from 3) but wasn't as good all around in my view.

I should have added Prigioni to HM's..in fact, I think I'd have him rather than Mills as my starting pg.

    (In random order)

    Wade
    Jasikevicius
    P. Gasol
    GInobilli
    Kobe
    LeBron
    Paul
    Fernandez
Rubio - considering his young age
Spanoulis - considering he was the only Greek who wasn't afraid to grab a hot ball

    Biggest disappointments:
Yao - was let down by his teammates, although he seemed to struggle himself
Papaloukas - average decision-making; poor offensively
    Nowitzki - same case with Yao;

    MVP: Wade
LVP (Least Valuable Player): (too)-Big Sofo

    Best coach: Coach K
    Worst coach: Blatt
