His presence on the Egyptian NT is very important since he is one of the best players and leaders of the team. I remember that Egypt were upset by Cape Verde for the 3rd place position in the African Championships which would have given them the chance to play in the pre-Olympics in Athens this year.

The African Championship as other championships across other continents (ex. Asia, South America, Americas, Europe, and Oceania) are played once every 2 years. In one championship (ex. 2005 African Championship) the first 3 teams qualified to the World Championships in Japan 2006 (Angola, Senegal, and Nigeria). The Championship that occured in 2007 which qualifies to the 2008 Beijing Olympics only had 1 team directly qualify and that was Angola. The second and third place teams (Cameroun and Cape Verde) had to play in the pre-Olympics tournament that was played this summer in Athens.
