Ultimate Pinoy Basketball - NBALIVE08 Modification

UPB Mod is a modification for NBALIVE08 (PC GAME) that will combine 3 major Basketball Leage in the Philippines in one tournament, namely the PBA, PBL, and the LP (Liga Pilipinas). I know there has been a release of PBALive, but i can't enjoy it very much because of the SEASON and Dynasty mode incompatibility. In order to make the season and dynasty work, 10 teams from PBA + 8 teams from PBL + 12 teams from LP = 30 teams will replace all NBA teams. This would also make the Dunking Competition and 3 Points Shootout, Rookie Sophomore, North and South All-Star and FIBA playable.

BRIEF HISTORY ABOUT THE UPB MOD.
I started the mod May 10, 2008 at NLSC forum and its ready for a BETA November 9, 2008, so thats 6 months in the making.
There are already PBALIVE game releases, but i want to play and enjoy all the game modes the NBALIVE has to offer. Someone told me at Panelo forum that PBALIVE can never be played in Dynasty mode, as well as the other modes like 3pts shootout, dunking, etc. Actually he was right, but you can make it work if you have 30 teams in the game but it wont be a PBA league anymore. Replacing all the 30 NBA teams with 30 philippine commercial teams will make all modes working. Thats when i decided to combine PBA, PBL, and LP to complete the 30 team requirement.
It would be a huge project to make all the 30 teams, and luckily Kris, Jenner, and Gen were there to support the project at the start.Kris advised me to talk with the current PBALIVE team, so that i can use some of their material to speed up the completion of the mod. I would like to thank the PBALIVE Team Gmac and others for allowing me to use some of their materials and it was a great boost for the mod. Dann Garcia and Bokayo also allowed the use of their ARENAS.

At the middle of the development, Gen (the one who help me with the PBA jerseys) then became busy
as the school started already sometime June-July. I was then alone again, making the jerseys and CFs. Half way mking the PBL jerseys, i recieved a PM from prinsipe with a lot of PBL materials and that made the completion of the PBL jerseys. Then making the LP jerseys, i found myself alone again and LP have the most teams in UPB (12 teams). Another great patcher again came named hingedman. He made 3 LP jersey, the misor, cavite, and the cebu jersey he made a long time ago.

After finishing all the Home and Away Jerseys for all teams, I got sick and i was hospitalized some time in September. I had a galblader stones so the doctors have to remove my galblader. A week after my operation, i was really determine to finish the mod even if im still recovering from my operation.

Now, all the Jersey are done, but theres another problem. Making 60 practice jerseys! This will take long so i asked the PBATEAM for some more help. I believe ivan_kups and 2004 contacted the jersey makers for the PBALIVE. We got lucky again and Cavs23 allowed us to use the 20 PBA Practice jerseys. Theres still another problem, making hte 40 practice jerseys. Then came principe again and volunteered to make all the remaining practice jersey.

Since i got my hands off the jerseys, i then concentrated on finishing the ROSTER. My working ROSTER got bugged, so i started with a new clean roster. I didnt know making the roster would be hard and it took more than 2 weeks to finish it. Thanks to Andrew for answering my questions regarding the ROSTER.

Now with some finishing materials, Double LC made the UPB logos as well as a scoreboard (bugged so we used the old one), van volunteered to make the Norht and South (i never received the jerseys, maybe he was busy), iris and jenz made some new logos for the new pba season, vhan volunteered to make the new ROS and TNT jerseys (he didnt finish the jersey on time of the BETA release) and June19 submitted a lot of great quality CFs. A lot more people have contributed but i cannot list them all as this BRIEF HISTORY will be a LONG HISTORY.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THIS MOD:
- working exhabition games (30 selectable teams)
- working season mode
- working dynasty mode
- working 3pts shootout
- working dunking contest
- working rookie sophomore contest
- working allstar game
- working FIBA competition (RP Team VS international Teams)

BUGS AND LIMITATION
- no player name sounds by the announcers

WHAT YOU NEED:
You need an original NBALIVE 2008 for this mod to work.
Suggested Video Card for the mod is at least a GeForceFX5500 with pixel shader 2.0. If you use GeForce MX models, players would look very bright. Better find another darker lighting patch.

WARNING:
Install the mod at your own risk. Don't blame me/us if something happens to your pc.

UPBLIVE BETA v2 Released
Visit http://projectbasketball.org to download the file.

INSTALLATION GUIDE:
1) Install NBALIVE 08.
NOTE: If you already have an old NBALIVE 08 installed, pls rename or remove your NBALIVE 08 folder located at your My Documents.
2) Install UPBLIVE08v2.
3) Install UPBMusicPack
4) Install Real Shoe Patch v1.0 to your sgsm folder. No need to run the BAT files. You can download it at

5) Again check if you have a NBALIVE 08 folder at your My Documents. Pls rename or remove it.
6) Run the Game to create a new NBALIVE 08 folder at My Docs . If everything goes well, exit the game and proceed to next step.
7) Copy the included SETTINGS folder to your My Document/NBALIVE 08.
8 ) OPTIONAL: you can install the scoreboard made by Victormen and AIACT by Kris included in the patch.

Thanks. Its a collection of works of different talented pinoy patchers. The graphics may not be that good but i say its very satisfactory. The main objective is to make a playable pinoy basketball game. Ofcourse, there may me bugs as we have attempted to modify more than 30+ teams. The more you edit, the more chances there is bug. Right now, the BETA release is very playable.

I just updated my 1st post. Theres a screenie already. I hope you guys can enjoy it.

Making a full mod for 2k9 takes time, It might even take a year to finish it. Patcher only do this on their free time and most of them are working or studying, so i really cant say that there would be a full PBA 2k9 soon.

After one season in dynasty, the CPU Algorithm generates American, African, North Asian and Euro players of origin, how can I generate Full Blooded Filipinos or Fil-ams? Do I have to override the algorithm and pre-template it with generic players?

Good job guys for retaining Team Pilipinas like in PBA live 2007. That would be good so that we can battle the fiba teams even if its just a video game.

Im already making the New Roster with a proper annual salaries for all pba players (salary data from pbafantasy). This will make all teams have an average of 20-25m (Salary Cap limit for all teams is 53M). I have also adjusted the years of service for all players (ave is 2-5 years) so that most teamlineups will be intact. About the CPU trades, well theres nothing we can do there as this is a problem even if you play the default NBALive Roster. About the Generated Rookies, nobody really knows how to edit that. The Best thing you can do is learn how to edit dbf and manually change the now generated rookies names and rating to the new upcoming rookies if you like. Anyway, i have set some promising rookies with a negative years in the league, example like Al Hussaini having -1 year of experience and 1 year remaining contract. Theres a change that he will be released by his present team during the next season and you can hire him as freeagent. If not, then you have to manually trade him to which ever team you wish through DBF Editing.

There will be no NBALIVE 09 PC release this year, but i recommend NBA2K9 for PC as it is an XBOX port to PC.

Ok i mentioned at my previous post that DYNASTY faces cannot be edited, well i was wrong. The next BETA release will have some DYNASTY fixes that will generate rookies using pinoy looking players (skin tone 0,1,2) and the CPU will not anymore generate import looking players. I have also edited the generated rookie NAMES so that you can have a more realictic generated rookie names. The next BETA Release will have a autoinstaller so that people will have less difficulty installing the mod. Thanks to everyone who have tried the mod.
