He is gonna graduate this year and this 6'7" 237lbs Center is already in contact with Mr.Manotoc the player agent.
We wonder it he's gonna play for PHL or strut it out in the PBA D-League under SMC.

if he is referring to the filipino leagues in the US. yes some of them are really stupid. as you can see 5'10 centers and teams like KEMIS "kay missis uma asa".. asian leagues are better as you can be agaisnt tall Indians and middle eastern players.

    Tweet #2

he was just simply saying that he can understand every "tagalog" word his grandma is saying as he is fluent in "tagalog".. maybe grandma is mad about something.

whew..even Ging freecs(Gon's father -hunter x hunter anime/manga), a monster that he is, wanted to go "outside" and explore the "bigger world" as he explained to Gon that there are worlds outside the human perceived world.

If i was a baller, i, too, would have a hard time thinking. It would highly be likely that i wont make it to the NBA star/Superstar level. Or even if i reach my nba dream, i would just be a journey man. I may make it in Europe though. However, the perks that i would get playing for the PBA would be better. Add that the cost of living in the Philippines is lower, date celebrity hookers and you will be under powerful men.
BUT, if i was still young, i would take my chance to develop my game outside the country. My point would be to DEVELOP and learn. My only concern would be if i would be able to gain experience in an actual game and play while i am surrounded by a number of better guys. But the development that i will get will help determine my game and my future no matter if i became an NBA scrub, euroleague role player or a PBA star.

    think about it, Ravena.
The fact that Ravena and Ray Parks are not in the level of the top highschool /college prospects in the states will lead them to accept offers (10M, Mall) from our local tycoons. In the next decade or so if we have another Ray Parks or Ravena who are ranked in the top 10 highschool prospects, they will certainly not play in the UAAP and instead be a 'one and done' US NCAA player and be an NBA lottery pick-$4 million dollar (160 M Pesos) salary on their rookie year.

It's like starting a tech-startup company, the best talents and big investors are in Silicon Valley so why incorporate locally when you have the chance to play in the majors.

Maybe the reason he said the Filipino Leagues are stupid is because his team lost in the recent Mabuhay Cup in Toronto..... is it sour grapes?????

Is he really 6-5? I mean Bobby Parks, Sr. is 6-3 & looking at the picture, Parks is about an inch taller than Akins.

Don't know the thread to put this. But here it goes.

Young Pinoys ready for US hoops tourney
By Edward Lao, ABS-CBN Europe News Bureau
    Posted at 08/15/2012 5:21 PM | Updated as of 08/15/2012 5:21 PM

LONDON – After months of training and preparation, London’s best young Filipino basketball players said they are now ready to compete in the United States.

The London Juveniles, a group of under-20s whose members were selected after trials in the British capital, are set to take part in the 25th North American Basketball Association (NABA) tournament being held in Washington DC.

The annual event, which attracts scouts from the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) and the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP), is the largest Filipino basketball meet outside of the Philippines.

It will run during the US Labor Day weekend, from September 1 to 3.

ABS-CBN Europe caught up with the squad on July 28, following a 3-on-3 tournament the players had organized. The event, held at the Damilola Taylor Centre in Peckham, aimed to raise funds for the team’s expenses in the US.

The London Juveniles trio of Antony Sison, CJ Baiden and Steven Mercado won the 3-on-3 tournament.

After the tournament, the London Juveniles faced local team Macpro in their penultimate friendly before leaving for the US.

Several Macpro players were noticeably taller than the Filipinos. Before tip-off, Macpro head coach Michael Carty playfully offered to instruct his players not to dunk so they would not embarass the Filipinos. The offer was declined.

Macpro dominated the boards as expected, but the Juveniles kept themselves within reach with perimeter shooting and foul-line points.

With just a few seconds left in the second quarter, a three-pointer from the Juveniles lifted the Filipinos into the lead.

But Macpro came roaring back in the third quarter and outscored the Juveniles by almost 20 points. At the end of the period, the score was 63-48 in favor of Macpro.

The Juveniles refused to give up and clawed themselves back into contention. Mercado led the rally, scoring 12 of his 17 points in the final quarter. With five minutes remaining, he sank a three to tie the game at 69-all.

The Juveniles’ fight back was not enough, however, as Macpro held them off to win 80-75.

Despite the loss, Juveniles coach DJ Sayson was satisifed with his team’s performance.

“Only down the stretch is where we missed it, literally down that last stretch is where we didn’t give enough. Besides that though, great, I’m happy,” Sayson said.

“I guarantee we’ll produce a lot more,” he added.

Ryan Adap, who finished with 14 points, was pleased the Juveniles fought back from a 15-point deficit.

“We hustled really hard, but we just didn’t have that little edge to finish off the game,” he said.

Asked if the team is prepared for the NABA tournament, Adap replied, “We’re ready. Got a few little touch-ups and then we’ll be ready.”

Taiwo Badmus of Macpro praised the Filipino team and said they are equipped to create a stir in the US.

“They definitely have a good chance. I think they’re a well-organized team, they’re aggressive, they’re fast, they’re athletic, so I definitely think so,” said Badmus, who led his side with 26 points.

“They’ve got good teamwork as well,” he added.

The London Juveniles rounded up their pre-NABA friendlies with an 88-85 victory over a select side from the club Westminster Warriors.

They fly out to Washington on August 27.

Why would not our fil-am boys stay in the U.S. and pour their swet and blood enough to have a stint in a ncaa div 1 school then work out their talents and pursue their NBA dreams? When time came that their motherland need their help to don the national color, they should come so.

The other countries do that i think..

I hope he is a legit 6'7", he might turned out just 6'5" when measured here. I believe Noli Eala have eyes on this player since last season as ABL only allowed one asian foreigner each team with Banchero signed already for SMB, i think Manotoc will convince him to play in the PBA Dleague if he is interested to play in the PBA.

Finally Mike gets the exposure he so richly deserves. I have seen this kid dominate the Filipino age group leagues and play for one of the top NZ basketball schools that produced Rob Loe. I hope that he decides to follow his hoop dreams home (Phl) now that he is almost done with high school. I am sure that scouts will now contact him. Good luck, Mike.

I wonder what happened to those two Fil-aussies who used ti suit up in Rajko Toroman's Smart gilas during their exhibition with Singapore Slingers. anyone knows where are they?
“Import is just part of the team,” he said. “As long as he does things that make everyone effective, then he will continue playing for this team.”
    -Rajko Toroman

It was pretty obvious why we lost in our last game," said Express mentor Bong Ramos. “Our import was totally outclassed. Paul Harris scored 28 points while Robinson had only 12. Normally, imports would just cancel each other out in terms of point production."
