E??? Really? I have to admit i am very surprised...but on the other hand these are preparation games and we are in the beegining of preparation so i guess we can assume some teams are more ready than others..thats the thing with preparation games..

    Croatia - Slovenia 78:82
    Ukic 21; E. Lorbek 14

Both teams were missing some important players. Popovic and Planinic were not playing for Croatia, while Slovenia was without Smodis, B. Udrih and Vujacic.

Slovenia prevailed at the end thanks to size and rebounding advantage. After watching couple of preparation games of both teams, Slovenia looks like a half a step better team then Croatia.

We were really awful vs Germany, hope things improve soon, although i see no reason why they should. We don't have any shooters except the young Tripkovic. Some game statistics:

    Serbia field goal %:
    2 P Shooting %: 26% (14/54)
    3P Shooting %: 16% (3/19)

    SRB: Popović, Tepić 6 (6sk), Erceg 6 (6sk), Kecman 2, Marković, Tripković 3, Krstić 15 (5sk), Veličković 5 (4sk), Raduljica 4 (5sk), Bjelica 2 (6sk), Teodosić 10.

    Ger: Štajger 4, Šafarčik 13, Šulce 3, Visocki 5, Haman 6, Grin 8, Idbihi 9, Liška 1, Jagla 9, Pleis 2, Olbreht 4, Benzing 8, Heris 2

    *sk= Rebounds.

Poland Replace Slovenia In O2 Warm-Up Event

Slovenia have decided not to take part in ‘Game On' - a EuroBasket 2009 warm-up event to be staged at London's O2 Arena from August 14-16.

The Slovenians were expected to join Great Britain, Israel and Turkey at The O2 but have decided to schedule a game with different opposition.

EuroBasket 2009 hosts Poland have replaced Slovenia in the event.

"We have been in contact about our participation in the O2 tournament and we were close to reaching an agreement," Slovenian Basketball Federation national team director Matej Avanzo said to Basketball World News.

"But in the end, our coaching staff - led by the head coach Jure Zdovc - decided we would rather use the time to play against another opponent, not Great Britain.

"That is because we already have another game against them booked in the preparation period before the EuroBasket in Poland."

Great Britain coach Chris Finch says Poland will be a strong side for ‘Game On' at The O2.

"Poland is a great addition to our event and I know our players will be excited to play them come August," Finch said.

"They have a strong tradition and are undoubtedly very proud of their position as hosts of the 2009 European Championships."

Israel and Turkey will also compete in the Final Round in Poland.

Portugal, Finland Warm Up In Almada Event

Portugal and Finland played at the International Tournament of Almada over the weekend and each claimed one victory in three games.

The teams are stepping up their preparations for the EuroBasket 2009 Additional Qualifying Round and tournament hosts Portugal beat the Finns on the opening day of the event, 67-59, before slumping to a 68-64 setback to Angola.

In their last game on Sunday, the Portuguese pushed Brazil hard but fell at the end, 77-73.

Finland, meanwhile, suffered a 95-89 setback to the Brazilians in their second game before turning on the style against Angola and winning 96-83.

In that win over the reigning champions of Africa, the Finns hit 15 three-balls with Shawn Huff's 18 points leading the scoring.

Samuel Haanpaa contributed 16 points, Tuukka Kotti weighed in with 14 and seven rebounds and Petteri Koponen also poured in 14 points.

Koponen, whose NBA draft rights are held by Portland, was a EuroChallenge winner with Virtus Bologna this season.

Brazil won the Almada event as they also defeated Angola to go 3-0 in the tournament.

In the EuroBasket Additional Qualifying Round, which tips off on August 5, Portugal are in Group A with Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Belgium while the Finns are in Group B with France and Italy.

The group winners will battle it out in a home-and-away tie to determine the last team to earn a trip to the EuroBasket in Poland.

ANG/BRA/FIN/POR – Brazilian men clinch Almada title

ALMADA (International Tournament of Almada) – If Brazil coach Moncho Monsalve is looking to see which players may be ready to help the team qualify for the 2010 FIBA World Championship in Turkey, he will certainly give emerging center Paulăo Prestes strong consideration after the team’s triumph at the International Tournament of Almada in Portugal.

Paulăo was voted MVP of the event after leading the South American giants to wins over Angola (89-86), Finland (95-89) and Portugal (77-73).

In the title-clinching triumph over the Portuguese on Sunday, Paulăo had 12 points and six rebounds.

Duda, a member of last year’s Brazil side at the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Athens, led the Brazilian scoring with 16 points.

Both players have a great shot at joining the veteran players, who will arrive on July 27 for the Brazil training camp for the FIBA Americas Championship.
