VEN/PUR - Venezuela shuts down Puerto Rican shooters in second game:
ISLA MARGARITA (2009 FIBA Americas Championship) - After losing the first game, Venezuela played great defense and defeated Puerto Rico 62-44 in the second contest played at Isla Margarita.
The first game was for Puerto Rico 85-80 thanks to the offense by Ángel Daniel Vassallo with 22 points and Jesse Pellot-Rosa 16.
In the second game Venezuela reacted, shutting down the Puerto Rican shooters from the perimeter to get the win.
"We we focused and had a tight defense from the start and my players didn't allow any shots from outside. We worked hard and it showed at the end. That is the way we need to play to complete our objective in Puerto Rico," said Venezuelan head coach Nestor Salazar.
Oscar Torres had 13 points, Greivis Vásquez 10 and Héctor Romero 8 for Venezuela. Carlos Rivera netted 10 and Alexander Falcón 8 to lead Puerto Rico.
85-80
44-62 Man that second game was horrendous low scoring, a lot of defense played.

No lie, Barea is our future, but just came out of an operation. If he gets injured mid tournament we're dead. Joel Jones is old, and Cintron doesnt want to take Ayuso who for me, is the most willing and patriotic, "never say I cant be there for the NT" guy we have had in a long time. And for obvious reasons, I much rather have 25year old Jesse Pellot on the team, who this BSN season, averaged more points and rebounds than Joel Jones had in his entire career. He also outplayed Jones in the freethrow and three point shooting categories, and had more assists this season. Plus he, being an ex-football player, is obviously physically stronger which is a plus for a SG and has a better chance for making three point play. And to top it off, this guy doesnt like to lose and plays his butt off even in friendlies like you can see in my link of Puerto Rico vs Venezuela, something tells me he will give his all for the NT.
Im pretty Mad at Guillermo Diaz for his past with the NT, but it seems he has changed and really wants to be with this team, plus articles state that hes the most athletically gifted of the squad and is outplaying most guards.
No Barea in the ToA.

Santiago and Peavy are still up in the air, right?
